Is Boro a derby?

Do you think any other fanbase other than us and the mags call them that on the level we do?
Couldn't give a shite to what other fan bases call them be honest. Pretty sure this kind of stuff goes on Country wide with sides that are close to each other geographically but don't have an actual local rivalry. Call it an endearing term of affection on our part or whatever you want but it still isn't a Derby for me and never will be.

Maybe only because there’s hardly any clubs up north east. If you were north west or midlands for example you wouldn’t be classing a club 30 miles away as a derby game

Fair enough mate. I've been to boro away and home many times and in my opinion it deffo has more of an edge than 'normal' games

What are your thoughts @seahamstar
My take on it (said on here a few times) is I'd say SOME Boro fans think of it as a 'derby' because you're the nearest club to us (on a similar level), but obviously you're closer to Newcastle than us - a lot of your respective fans will work together, drink in same pubs and in some cases be in the same families, so your matches against them are bound to mean a LOT more.
Personally, I'm not bothered either way - it's a match that I'd like 3 points from - I'm too long in the tooth and with real stuff going on in my life to be concerned with who hates who the most.

I would say though, that this idea that we get more 'up for the game' than you is an odd take on it - surely people can't really believe that as a reason why you have a bad record on Teesside.
It's almost saying your players don't try cos it's not a 'big enough game'.
I'd also say that it being our 'cup final' is a load of tosh.
It's quite conceited and disrespectful imo.

Just my views.

Never met a Boro fan in my life as far as I'm aware. I can see why some may feel it has extra importance but to me it is just another game. When they beat us at our place it made no difference to me whatsoever.

Not a derby for me like. Felt sorry for them when they nearly folded and had a soft spot for them ever since.

Ayresome Park was a proper ground too

Certainly wouldn't class it as a derby the way I do with the Mags, and have nowt against Boro personally due to there being very few if any Boro fans in the area where I live and grew up, but it'd be daft to say that there's no rivalry at all. There's definitely an edge in the atmosphere both in the ground and in the town itself when Boro are through.
