I wouldn’t even call it local rivalry as I don’t know any Boro fans

Just said something very similar mate.Everybody will see it different
Is it the first fixture I look for? Na. Even Leeds is before it for me
Always feels a bit like playing Carlisle
It's slightly more of a rivalry than most other games we play (as is Leeds though imo), but I can't in all honesty call it a derby.
We've had so many players cross that divide with ease that I've often wanted them to do well.
If you ignore the extra bits added to Sunderland ie Washington etc to make it a city, and the 40k or so lopped off Boro and given to Redcar and cleveland (for some reason) the two places are pretty much the same size. So if we are a small town in Yorkshire you are a small town in Durham. For me being a Boro fan it's the game I most like to win, I don't loose sleep over it though and Leeds come very close in second place. I don't really give to hoots about the maggots. As you say, Boro is a small town in Yorkshire.
You say that, but then call them Mutants? No. Never has been never will be. Playing Leeds has more signifigance than playing the mutants

Gary Rowell, Boro loaned Sunderland their best prospect Stuart Downing, the list is endless the players that have passed between the clubs, Boro legend Mogga. That's a good point. Would Grant Leadbitter have signed for Newcastle and be as appreciated by Sunderland fans
MIssing your point here like TBH mate as they are mutants. You say that, but then call them Mutants?
Weirdo.MIssing your point here like TBH mate as they are mutants.
I think if you take Sunderland (the place itself) without the extra added bits that came later (asked to join when making it a city) and Middlesbrough (the bits they put in Redcar that are clearly in Middlesbrough what everyone calls unofficial Middlesbrough) both places are roughly the same size.If you ignore the extra bits added to Sunderland ie Washington etc to make it a city, and the 40k or so lopped off Boro and given to Redcar and cleveland (for some reason) the two places are pretty much the same size. Do you think any other fanbase other than us and the mags call them that on the level we do?MIssing your point here like TBH mate as they are mutants.
