Try a company called Phone Repairz NE who are based in Jarrow.
They can come to wherever you are to run a diagnostic check on the phone.
Think it costs about £15 and they should be able to identity the problem

Problem is a cheap battery though, surely.

might be the operating system, they get to a certain age and throw in the towel..

I’ve got a 6s and it works fine, although I did get apple to do the battery about a year ago, only cost 25 quid, don’t know if they still offer the same deal now like
