For what it's worth, I'm massively on the fence when it comes to the fake shirt argument.
I personally always buy myself one of the official shirts from the club shop, I rarely wear them but I don't have a season card due to the distance I'd travel for a home game so I see it as my way of putting a bit back into the club.

I do, however buy my kids (4 &7) their SAFC kits off DH Gate, the reasons for that are firstly the cost, £14 for a shirt and shorts with their names printed on the back, compared to the £65 for shirt and shorts in the official store, and that's before printing which is another £12 on top. Secondly, especially where Sunderland are concerned, the quality and standard of the shirts for young kids are horrendous. To stick a Sunderland badge on an Avec branded kit is an embarrassment. The kits I've purchased for them in the past are still going strong and look more authentic than what Avec produce.

I do know though that the fella in this video was and probably still is looking to catch out RTG favourite Gunn Retro, another area where the club let themselves down. The 'retro' options in the club shop are very, very bad whereas Gunn Retro clearly put a lot of effort into what he produces.
 

The club have forced fans down this road when it comes to SAFC shirts.

Total lack of stock/sizes and a shop which opens less than a Christmas pop-up store.

There was a huge amount of fans on here who wanted to purchase the shirts but there was no availability to do so. They then went down the DH Gate (or similar) route.

This. I didn’t even bother to check the store, as I knew I wouldn’t be able to get one given the threads on here.

That said not happy with the league one badges on the sleeves.
 
Watched that a few weeks ago, it was a decent watch.

Personally I’m against DH gate and the likes in general, but in the case of our kids kits being utterly pathetic compared to what they are selling for less than half the price it’s a no brainer.

I would never buy myself a shirt from there but have bought the kids a home kit and will probably get them the other 2 at some point.

If we sold a proper infants kit I might have a bit more guilt about it, but not currently
 
I've used DHgate for the last 3 or 4 seasons for the kids and to be honest the kits are on pretty chod but they are a fraction of the price.

The little un has a genuine yellow shirt from league one and a patta shirt from last season and they are so much better. That said we've had issues with badges peeling on shorts and that from the genuine Nike/just sports.

Both DHgate and official kits are worn to death.

I don't really wear football kits

This is the definitive answer… excellent post. The club loses all moral high ground because of this.
 
I started buying kits off DH Gate because of the stock issues the last couple of seasons. The cost is quite expensive also if you don’t really like the kit that much and just buy out of habit/loyalty from club store.A few year ago I would feel embarrassed wearing a fake sunderland kit and the cost never bothered me in the club shop as I just saw it as money going back into the club. Now I just think the club don’t deserve my money and there is nothing to be embarrassed about wearing them of DH Gate as so many people now are wearing them. From now on unless a strip comes out I love it’s DH Gate all the way for me. Just like people got sick of sky tv prices and bought firesticks people will look to dh gate to save money too.
 
Hilarious how the lads in the video try to give the impression that what are essentially sweat shops producing shirts for Nike etc are the pinnacle of workplace environments.

You'd think the employees there were working for Google or similar the way they are going on.

Ironically, some of the same factories that these lads are talking about, are used by big brands to produce their items also!

Not a like-for-like comparison obviously, but it's somewhat similar to how people say "I'd never eat Tesco branded cereal" when the items for Tesco and a well known brand are often produced in the same factory by the exact same producer, the only difference is the box!

Turkey has some cracking designer copy gear now, even got proper shops full of the copies
 
Not really one to wear footy shirts to be honest but recently received one from Gun Retro which is class, I only wear colours really if we get to Wembley or an important game like a SF at home or whatever.

I heard loads of people raving about DH Gate so just chanced it to see what it was like, Bought a retro Italy shirt and it’s class to be fair, Would never pay the full price for it but canny for £12 or whatever it was.

The good as just about as good, but much cheaper. The clubs make the argument that every counterfit shirt sold is costing them a real sale on a 1-to-1 basis.
Of course, this is nonsense. Just because someone buys a £15 shirt, it doesn't whatsoever mean they would have bought a £60 shirt if they hadn't had the cheaper option.

Pretending otherwise undermines any moral high ground that the clubs have. Especially when they are buying the shirts for the same price from the same factories and then whacking a £50 margin on top to literally rip people off.
