I don’t think we’re a million miles away from agreement.

I think the pitch is a poor test match pitch and it was obvious whoever won the toss was going to win it. The par score in the first innings on day one would have been 240-280. That suggests it isn’t a good pitch. England’s bowling was very mediocre and allowed India to clock up too many runs. We bowled far too many four balls and didn’t use the pitch presented (and have repeated that second innings). We then followed their innings up with a poorly constructed innings that was about 60-80 short of a par second knock. I doubt we’ll make 175 this innings either.

Point is, I don’t think test match pitches should point to the result of the match with such certainty at the end of the second session on day one. And I think this one did. Had England bowled and fielded better, I think this test match would be on the brink of ending.

It’s only a poor pitch if it their breaks up stupid (this one hasn’t really deteriorated at all) or if it’s stupidly unfair. I don’t see the toss as much of an advantage here at all in fairness, as the pitch as barely changed. It’s not done too much in these early overs and didn’t do too much in India’s second innings either. I don’t see a problem with a lower scoring pitch though, as long as it’s fair for both teams

I want to watch five days worth of cricket while I’m off :lol: Did anyone really think this test would last five days when they seen the pitch and seen how it played on day one? I think that’s the indication of a poor test match pitch.

Might as well just close the eyes and grit the teeth and leave those ones in the hope you don’t hear the clatter :lol:
