India v England series

Trent Bridge 2014 v India when Anderson scored 85 was a shite featherbed. Look at the colour of the pitch when Broad gets 8-15 the year after.

Can’t argue with the point on overhead conditions but the pitches in England make a big difference too.
The doctored pitch was the totally flat one though. They wanted it to go 5 days to recoup the ridiculous amount you have to shell out for a test. Also, that doesn't mean the atmospheric conditions weren't totally different between the two tests.

Surprised we haven't been more aggressive here. Its just a matter if time on this deck so might as well have a hit.

Only thing left in this test is to see if one of Burns or Lawrence sticks their hand up, while the other gets dropped for Bairstow.

That’s about right for me, what Buttler brings for me is coolness under pressure in the big games and important situations and keeping improving all the time.

Foakes is a exceptional keeper and it’s excellent we have that depth in keeping as we have in bowling.

Every player has a natural level and peaks and troughs within a career. I think Buttler’s natural level is a 35 average (passable-ish for a 6 but not great) but he’s having a red hot year now.

I think that’s the point I’m making mate (or trying to).

You could do it but Root at 3, Stokes at 4, Pope at 5, Foakes 6, Buttler 7. Don't know if we want to get into that discussion again though.

Yeah possibly then we get into that debate again about Root scoring massive runs at 4 and should we change him to 3.

Me personally I would not be against it as strongly believe Root scores runs because he is a brilliant batsman and also believe the runs he has scored this winter would have still been scored at 3.

But I am probably in the minority there and every time I go down that route the stats guys are out with his averages at 3 and 4 to dismiss that argument.

That’s a argument of course, but mine is Buttler is a exceptionally bright and intelligent guy who has now started to work out how to play test cricket and bat in it, accepted it has taken a while.

Personally now that he is cracking it, with his talent would be foolish to drop him now.

Is Crawley not available as well?

I’ve just seen the ball tracking for the Burns wicket - I’m sorry, but that’s bullshit. Missing leg all f***ing day in the real world that.

The Indian batters who did well were the ones who chanced there arm and tried to score at every opportunity. It is a bit of a minefield but we have batted like we are just waiting for 'the' ball to get us out

Yeah, I was against Root moving to 3 as I thought it was effecting him mentally and he didn't want to. When he's playing like this though I doubt he would any problem wherever he played.

He was on great form before he was moved last time and it, predictably, ruined him. I will be absolutely staggered if they do it again.

Ah right mate. I just remember it being an awful pitch for test cricket, just boring and in no way a test. Kind of the opposite of this pitch but yes both doctored.

Yes the pitch has made for a poor spectacle, solely prepared to favour Ashwin and co. at the expense of 4/5 days good cricket. As badly deteriorated as it is on Day 2 however, it’s equally served to highlight our spinners’ lack of control and some rank naivety in the batting lineup. Toss or no toss, we’ve not really been at the races in this test. Be glad when it’s over tbh
