Fair enough, however with Stokes 5 and Pope 6, don’t think room for Buttler as pure batsman, so for me you weigh everything up and pick Buttler and not Foakes despite he been a superb keeper.
 
The pitch isn’t great and some of the umpiring decision especially 3rd umpire have been shocking but we all know India control the world in terms of cricket.

Trent Bridge 2014 v India when Anderson scored 85 was a shite featherbed. Look at the colour of the pitch when Broad gets 8-15 the year after.

Can’t argue with the point on overhead conditions but the pitches in England make a big difference too.

I did, and I have no axe to grind with him. As I say, super cricketer but ifhe can’t get in the top 6 (just like any other) then he shouldn’t play. Foakes must play. It is the muddled selection which is an issue, not Butler.

That’s about right for me, what Buttler brings for me is coolness under pressure in the big games and important situations and keeping improving all the time.

Foakes is a exceptional keeper and it’s excellent we have that depth in keeping as we have in bowling.

You could do it but Root at 3, Stokes at 4, Pope at 5, Foakes 6, Buttler 7. Don't know if we want to get into that discussion again though.

Guess it’s a matter of opinions but weighing everything up, Buttler would definitely be my number 7 and keeper with Foakes a very good replacement, as agree can’t get into top 6 with full squad to choose from
