India v England 3rd Test Rajkot

In other news, NZ quick Jamieson has got no luck, out for a year with yet another back stress fracture, 80 wickets @ 19 in TC

Not only have we let their bowlers get off the field when they were half fit, we’ve now got our bowlers back out there after only 24 hours rest.

This will be controversial, but wasn’t McCullum a bit overrated but had a huge exciting innings in him? This lot are the same 0,4,16,12,11,2,47.,0,0,3, 185of 92 balls people only remember the 185.

Today has been a disaster. Root and Bairstow would be beating the drop in any other regime
It was when other regimes were dropping players right left and centre English test fortunes were shit and players were frightened to play their natural game because of it and the pressure they were under.

Bairstow tbf has had a few seeds get him out this series. Others seem to want to give their wickets away
Also felt he batted very well in the last 3 Ashes tests.
The big problem for Bairstow and Root is that their current form is carrying on from poor world cups for both, so it feels like they've underperformed for months when its only been 5 innings in Test cricket.

Yeah was crazy he was dropped at the start of the ashes. Him and root were the most in form bats leading up to it

Doesn’t make much sense having the lions in India, but then send them home mid-series without anyone joining up with the main squad.
Given the modern concept of the tour, where even the first choice eleven in this case hasn’t even stayed in the country for the whole of it, I don’t think the old concept of “keeping them with the squad” has any real meaning anymore. it’s not as if if we wanted one of the lions to play in the fifth test we’d need to get him off the boat at Durban and turn him round.

Of course it isn’t.

It’s taking stock and realizing today was bad and fine tuning it for the future.

The poster suggesting dropping a large chunk of players including our best batsman ever to teach them a lesson.

Completely bonkers!!
No you are right we should just keep happy clapping and do the same thing game after game and then question why nothing ever changes. Isn’t the first team we’ve folded like this under this situation either - can get over it the first time it happens as shit happens, but second time? No thought whatsoever goes into our play at times

Aggers on BBC
England have chucked it away. Test cricket is played over a long five days. You have to be tactically flexible and apply common sense, according to the match situation. England have failed spectacularly.
It’s dead easy to say game awareness everytime we collapse (which we did plenty playing conventional cricket) Now this definitely applies to Root but Duckett for years has played cricket always putting bat to ball and got 153. Does it apply to Pope and Bairstow being out LBW or Crawley out yesterday. That’s your top 5. It’s been a terrible day with the bat but it’s we have loads of these before playing a different way.

When we play shit like we have had this morning and granted it’s been really really bad there is a lot more posts and criticism on these threads.

Than massive praise when we playing absolutely brilliantly and destroying teams with brilliant attacking cricket

It genuinely confuses me, is it a English thing or a cricket fan thing?

So at 1-1 in a series away in India (where our win was 1 of our greatest ever wins), your suggestion to a shit hours play is to drop a load of players, including probably our best ever batsman?

Root, stokes are the two key culprits. Crawley yesterday too, albeit without the circumstances hanging over him at the time. Absolutely brain dead

It’s a balance mate, and accepting your point which is a good one.

And fining tuning it!

As for game after game!

I am not sure you realize it, but before this regime and this new approach we had won one in 17 tests and since this new approach have been on one of the most successful runs English test cricket has ever seen!!!

It’s a discussion forum. There’s not a lot to discuss when we win and play well. That’s ultimately why there’s less posts when we win. What do you want, 1000 posts kissing up to the same players and agreeing with each other? There’s obviously more to discuss when things go wrong, same in football (hence the match thread differences)

So we should just accept losing 4-1 here because we lost 5-0 last time?

Think the third alternative to consider is that it’s a football fan thing. PF is typically an even more extreme version of the same thing.

Also, a social media thing of course. These days, everything either has to be totally brilliant or totally shit. Of course, unlike the more nuanced issues of the day that this extreme mindset still gets applied to, the thing about Bazball is that it does genuinely have a tendency to be either totally brilliant or totally shit.
