India v England 1st ODI

Eoin Morgan | England captain: Did a lot of things right today. Wicket was brilliant as well which made for an entertaining game. There was something for the seamers but if you got in, you could score heavily too. Our bad days with the bat make it look worse than usual. Need to execute better than we did today. When you look at our top seven in particular, we've all scored under 60 ball hundreds. That's the way we want to play. With one eye on the WC, we want to try and push the envelope in that regard. Sometimes it doesn't work. But for us it's better to lose like that than losing by 10-20 runs. That's the way we'll continue playing. Fitness levels have moved the game forward, bats have moved the game forward. Important for us to dictate the way we play and reinforce the method that's worked for us. Our bowlers did an outstanding job with traditional Test lengths and line that proved effective. Didn't probably play well enough to take advantage of the dew. Which is disappointing because the toss is an advantage here in India.

That was basically his full post match interview including the previous snippet

Yup. It's a very brain-dead view IMO

The great Aussie side, for example, would win in different ways on different surfaces. This whole "that's the way we play" shite needs to get to fuck. You adapt according to the circumstances.

Morgan will always deserve a place in our hearts, but I think his praise has gone to his head and his ego has swollen.
this^^^^^......seems to have developed a god complex

Also why does fuck get spelled out as fuck but f***ing gets the star treatment? Weird
Fucked also works

Billings is Smith's mate. It's the Joe Denley situation all over again.
No idea on the new swear filter.

If you bother to amend the text colour(even just to black) you can say everyone not on the cricket forum is a fucking cunt without either word being starred

Morgan clearly believes the alternative to losing comfortably because you bat like headless chickens was to lose marginally.

Nope. The alternate reality where brains were engaged was a comfortable 5-6 wicket victory. England won the World Cup because they had by far the best players and home advantage and still needed to get lucky, they won despite any lingering attempts at trying to blast every ball out of the stadium not because of it. Getting 400+ once in a while means sweet FA because that's not how World Cups are decided. The same applies to their lobotomized approach to T20 batting. 161 is the highest score in a final - achieved thanks to four consecutive sixes. They're like the flashy Brazil team that got smashed 7-1 in a World Cup semi final. Win the damn game first and foremost, use that thing between your ears.

I would use it on you and call you a ****, but as a fellow Bhoy I couldn't ;)
Damnit. Didn't work

I'd rather lose by 10-20 runs than lose from a position of absolute strength. F##K off Morgan.

FFS the run rate had gone down to less than 6 an over, that's nowt these days. The players should be able to adapt from the smash it everywhere mentality to knock it around and run for everything. This shows lack of match awareness which can only stem from the top. I've been critical of Morgan of late, his attitude, captaincy and form are nothing short of a disgrace. How come no one in the media is questioning his role in the team? Root should be captain of all formats imo, no question. If we did, I think we could win this upcoming world cup, with Morgan, I think we'll be also rans.

I’ve backed Morgan and hope he can rediscover what won us the world cups but his comments yesterday were just bollocks, no better way to describe them

Me too, I've backed Morgan to the hilt in the past but there comes a point where you start questioning his position in the team let alone his captaincy. I can't remember the last time he contributed with the bat. Smacking sixes all over and generally taking us over the line in many matches, but that seems like a distant memory. Granted, his hand was fucked yesterday so has an excuse, but what about the rest of his shiote performances? When do we draw a line under the achievements he has made and start to look towards the future? Look forward not back?

I think he probably deserves this world cup, even though I don't think we'll win it under him. If it were me personally, I'd drop him and let Root take over, I know he's chomping at the bit. The way he's been treated in the T20 format needs looking at too, the lad is going to go down as the best batsman we have ever produced.

Other countries, like India with Kohli, NZ with Williamson, Aus with Smith and Pak with Azam all find ways to pick their best players for the shortest format, sometimes opening with them. Granted they aren't as big hitters as some of the lads but as the last T20 showed they don't all have to be mint baseball players to be successful. The very top players find ways of winning games regardless of brute strength, like Kohli's 80 odd anchor did with India. Root is getting a raw deal atm. How much of that is down to Morgan not wanting Root to disrupt his captaincy? Personal shit again.

Not sure Root would want the extra burden mind. Think he just enjoys being one of the lads in the one day stuff

Fair play marra, play him at least though. Have someone else as captain. I know Buttler isn't the most vocal, but who else is there? Stokes hasn't really set the T20 world alight, albeit with a diminished role.
