India tour

£288 flight single from vanata (Helsinki)on the 29th few days in Delhi £51 per night

Then can get to second test from Delhi on the train usually a few cheap deals

Flights back well haven’t thought about that bit yet 😂

Dedication that. Takes about a day and a half. Think I'd be flying to Chennai or Kolkata for a shorter train. 2nd class sleeper train is canny though.

Best place to stay in Delhi is Paharganj, central to the train/metro and Main Bazaar had a nice vibe.

I’m at a wedding In Finland mate wife’s spending the week there I’ve booked one way flight for the very reason to catch the cricket.

I enjoy the travel, love going alone. Have done a few sleeper trains before a love it. Usually travel light and buy what I need on the journey saves £££

The connections for the flights I can get pretty much meant Delhi was the only place(well cheapest) I could get to and fancy a vist to the red fort.

There’s an ‘England Tour to India’ group on FB which’ll be good if you want to know where people are heading for drinks etc.

Don’t think there’ll be many out until the final test in Dharmashala and those groups are great for advice when numbers are small.

We didn't do any Delhi tourist sites. First day there it was a lot to take in and we were off to Shimla on the second day. We went back to Delhi later in the holiday but spent a day at Agra/Taj Mahal and the other one at the cricket. There's another red fort at Agra which I think was owned by the same bloke.

Wouldn't say I loved Delhi, bit too 100 mph for me. Connaught Place decent for a night out but quite expensive for India.

Looks like Hyderabad is the cheapest/easiest one to get to. Not sure what there is there mind
Not a deal mate but yes, easiest venue to reach
Vizag is meant to be great but I remember from 2016 that it was an arse to get too. They had Mumbai/ Chennai then which were easy ‘in and outs’.
Is it “dry” there too?

Still be a prescience at all the tests
CM is doing 4 of them I think so there will be a designated Barmy Army HQ which is well worth visiting as remember, everyone is the same as you

Will he be fit for India? In hindsight a silly idea to have him play the world cup, having not played any 50 over cricket for a long time and disrupting the balance of the side. That said I was all for it before the tournament and am sure I still would be if we were heading for the semis.

He hopes definitely makes me think he won't

I did say as much I agreed that if he wanted to play in World Cup we had to pick him. But I hoped we wouldn't regret it and he wasn't fit for India.

If he can't bowl in India were at a disadvantage already as we then have to unbalance the side like we did in the Ashes.

Vizag isn't dry.
Rajkot is, it's possible to get a liquor licence, then take away cans. Or go to an expensive hotel, or a taxi driver can get you booze illegally, as plenty of middle class Indians drink at home or have parties.
I couldn't be arsed so stayed dry.
You sound as you've been to Hyderabad, to me it's a bit more interesting than other Indian cities with the lake, Buddha Statue and Islamic Architecture near the river.
India has loads and loads to see, but imho with a few exceptions, the big cities aren't particularly interesting.

I was only there a couple of weeks but found the most intimidating and scruffy places were around the main train stations in big cities. Their train stations aren't particularly busy compared to British stations and this means the hawkers etc turn up whenever a train turns up.

Plenty of hassle but generally safe enough. I tried busking at one once (harmonica) when I had hours to wait for a train. Never got any money, but one or two strange looks.
I should have put a few rupee coins in the hat to start things off.

Got ya
I’m not really well versed on India
Haven’t been since 1996
A distant memory

I’m going to first 2 but I’m debating doing someit else. It’d be a good experience but the venues are shit and not particularly places I wanna go for the money it’s gonna cost

Yeah I fancied it until the venues were announced. Really want to go to India but not worth the money for places that don’t really appeal to me. Dharmsala was where I really fancied but the game will more than likely be a dead rubber by then and it looks a bit logistically an utter fuck on.

Will save for the next ashes instead.

I’m thinking same. I’ve only committed to some Airbnb’s with mates. Not flights yet as we suspect the schedule might change

I love watching test cricket but I also wanna have a holiday outside it you know? Been to ashes in oz and Cape Town and few others, it’s a nice mix

This feels more like just cricket and Nout else

New Zealand tour in 12 months again which is a lot more appealing than India minus the extra cash it’ll cost.
