I went to San Diego Chargers v Miami Dolphins about 20 years ago. There is a common ground with their fans and us - they love their food at the game.
Before and after the game, they would open their car boots and have a tailgate party, which was essentially a hearty lunch before the game and a few nibbles and beers after. It was canny.
Because San Diego was so near the border, there were plenty of Mexicans, including a trumpeter. The scoreboards were eerily similar to the ones used at the World Cup '78 in Argentina. It all felt very Central or even South American, the whole day.
