If Sunderland went up via the play offs.......

Yes, I know that no one thinks this will happen but it is possible mathematically. If it did how many of our current squad could cope in the top flight?
Patto
Ballard
Hume
Neil
Clarke
Rosco
Amad - if willing.
It’s a bit of a redundant question for the masses on here that were convinced that only a handful of the squad that finished 5th last season were capable of making the step up. We have an unbelievably young squad and very few are even close to their full potential. Whatever division we are in next season, the majority of our players will be better than they have been this season.

Roberts, but we'd need competition. He looked very good against Fulham.

Batth is sound, but again we'd need competition, another Ballard ideally. I think Allese has loads of potential, he'll continue to develop, I'd add him to the list. As well as O'Nien, his attitude is second to none.

We'd just need to improve quality throughout really, but accept that we might have to go down, invest and build a stronger side to make a better go of it. That said, Brentford have managed to bridge the gap, as too have Fulham, although I think their wage bill will be high. Bournemouth could still pull off a minor miracle and survive.

We need to complete a seven game winning streak to get there, then win three more games to get promoted (ok maybe draw win win)
Not sure the last time we won ten games in a row - maybe over 100 year ago??

A lot of out of form top 9 sides.

3 wins from 4 may well suffice then lottery of play offs. Weve held our own versus all teams round us.

Think Stewart would definitely be good enough if he comes back from his injury the same player and think that Ballard, Diallo and Clarke are also good enough to be playing PL football next season.

Patterson, Hume and Neil all a year or two off being ready to make the step up IMO.

I honestly think that the current squad, with four very good acquisitions would do okay - maybe still get relegated, but would make a decent fist of it. We'd need a better back up than Bass, a better CM and two more strikers. Other than that, I think we're there, or there abouts. Obviously, we'll need a less shit injury plague than we've had this season.

I wouldn't be arsed if we went down.

£100m+ banked and sensible signings like we are now. We'd be the strongest team in the championship on our return

Over the past ten seasons, 15 of the 30 teams promoted from the Championship have come straight back down. Only five teams have finished in the top half in their first season up (six if Fulham pulls it off).

Last season, lots of posters felt that our team would have a hard time competing in the Championship but they have and they now have much more experience. My guess is that if we go up most of the players who aren't on loan will stay with us and there'll be some careful but not too expensive additions. The club appears to be on a long-term build so a major overhaul is unlikely.

We could either spunk a lot of money on 3-4 proper quality players (none of this for the future shite) and add another 2-3 loans (Diallo etc).

Or we could spend very little and put our faith in the current lads.

Either way i think people would be suprised how we perform.

I would be afraid that could change if we went up with our squad and significant funds were not made available
I agree, I know it’s not the popular view, but I don’t think we are ready.

I think we have a young, very exciting squad. But we need to build on it and add to it and, if we went up and experienced the demoralising relegations we’ve had, or worse, I worry about the impact moral wise on the young exciting squad we have.

I agree

I'd put a rather large question mark after Clarkey like.
I really don't think he's prem quality.
