We are the skinny weak hand me down poor cousin in their eyes . For centuries they have had their noses up the Establishments arses. Sunderland was trapped between the persecution of the Prince Bishops (Durham) and the tyranny of the Tyne (Monarchy). Did they try to stop the Scots invading Sunderland ? Did the f**k. We were collateral damage as in every Government decision since. And Newcastle is the Government of the North East.
 

Hate them? No.

I really can’t stand the majority of the twats, when I first started supporting SAFC in the early 60s, there was immense rivalry between the two clubs, a rivalry between two factions of working class blokes (some women), both sides having pride and dedication to their chosen club.
Both sides had many up's and downs , but I felt that there was common ground between the two sets of supporters, both teams coming from an isolated part of the country , so far removed from the trendy posh teams.
Most supporters from the NE worked in heavy industry such as Mining, Shipbuilding, Steelworks, Construction works, It seemed in those days it was the NE against the world, even though on derby days supporters from both sides still had that hatred and passion.
Then along came the PL and the money, the Mags hierarchy seemed to realize the potential of the new set up and committed Millions of pounds into securing the services of Keegan and his superstars, we seemed to stand still, this was the period where the middle classes in and around the NE became followers of the phenomenon called Newcastle United 1992, remember that in 1990-91 season NUFC attendances had fallen to 17-18 average.
In my view this is when it all went tits up, all of a sudden these middle class part timers were part of a working man’s culture that had existed for over one hundred years.
The Mags had lost their identity, this is demonstrated by them continually making fools of themselves by behaving like spoiled petulant children, i.e. wrecking their own city when they lost to there so called inferiors, numerous campaigns to oust managers because there not good enough to manage one of England’s top five , mock funeral services, the list goes on and on.
The divide has become more than a football rivalry, it became a class division, sure the Mags still have a number of supporters that are working class, however the majority are those infamous middle class NUFC 1992s, individuals who constantly bleat about having an airport, better shopping centers, a cathedrals, better pubs and nightlife, we have more than you,, blah blah blah.. are these the normal characteristics football supporter, sounds more like suburbia house wife's night out.
I wish with all of my heart that in the next 20 years before I leave this earth that I see my team win one more trophy, I also hope to witness the demise and destruction of an odious superficial pathetic football club, called NUFC 1992

But Ujpest were a pretty big team in the 60s and 70s, Hungarian champions and made it to three or four European Cup quarters/semis, I'm an old git tho so I remember them beating Leeds, Benfica etc.

I just remember that the competition, when Newcastle won it, was often decided on coin tosses or 'byes' when teams didn't turn up for games.

Look North paid it little attention until the final.

I actually met a woman recently, at a family funeral in Chopwell, who was at Wembley in 1955.

I can identify with this. Btw did you see Football Focus last week ? They interviewed a group of scum fans and a group.of our fans.
In my opinion, our fans came across as down to earth folk, theirs came across as middle class, middle aged pricks who took the piss and had to mention their city, airport, rail link etc.
