Hume Hybrid Role

Hume is a bloody great right back and is Sunderland through and through, heart of a lion. Anyone having a pop at him needs to fuck off or vent their frustration and vitriol elsewhere.. he doesn’t pick the team and I’d imagine is frustrated at being played out of position..
That's as daft as sticking up for playing him in goal. None of us have anything against him personally - but we can all see that playing him in midfield is a waste of a shirt and is a joke.

No. He can play a bit on the right wing but he’s never been exclusively a “right winger” in his career. He’s a right footed left winger who can play right if needed

He played right wing because we had no other options at the start and clearly Adingra was hoped to be the LW starter

He's primarily a RW.

Throughout his (short) career to-date, he has played 46 times on the right wing and 14 times on the left.

He has also played 12 times RW for us, with 6 at LW.

There's a narrative gaining traction that he can't play on the right, or at best isn't as good on the right, but I don't think it's fair.

I’m not saying he cant play there. I’m saying he’s not a “right winger”. He broke through at Bruges on the right due to injuries in that position. He was mainly a LW in the youth set up

I actually don’t mind him so much there, but calling him exclusively a right winger isn’t correct

He’s played 43 minutes for them

Where is this copied from?
Is he still not a right winger ?

Kevin Philips broke through as a fullback is he a fullback ?

No that’s quite literally my point. Being able to play a position does not make you “that position”

Phillips is not “a right back”

Talbi is not “a right winger”

Reinildo is not “a centre back”

All can play in those positions. It doesn’t make them defined as those roles

So nobody got an actual possiton then because they can play others :):):):)
He’s right winger mate don’t know how much evidence people can present you

Niall Quinn played in a goal a few times - even saved a pen.

Not a keeper.

To my mind there’s a singular nature around “a”. He’s probably “a winger”, in that you wouldn’t likely have him anywhere else

But he’s not “a right winger” because that too readily excludes the left
Jesus wept …. Ok what’s his primary position
wtf is this commentator going on about man it wasn’t even close to a red

Throughout his whole career since youths it’s been left wing and since breaking into men’s football he’s balanced left and right. Guess we don’t know yet as he’s played less than a full season of senior top level football. And mitigating factors as to his game time at Bruges.

I doubt he’d call himself “a right winger”

Either way, “primary position” is different to “is a…” for me

We probably just disagree on what “is a” means. I think it excludes other roles, perhaps you don’t? All good either way

As it’s been pointed out he’s played almost double the amount of games on the right as he has on the left
