How do you feel about the Ashes?

Stokes has just had another operation on a finger injury that wouldn't heal. I think we already knew he wasn't in a good place but the ecb doing making him a temporary captain a few weeks back given his situation.

Stokes was actually in the middle of a game for Durham when England came a calling to put together an England b team

No idea how you get banned in the first place tbh honest mate, you clearly know you cricket and it is simply about having good craic and good debate about cricket.

Tbh not sure why any people get themselves banned

very kind, cheers mate, likewise, even though we often disagree.

I get banned because I am arsehole at times, however I would say that was quite a while ago, so if I cough out of place now I get banned for previous transgressions!

Its all good fun though, just a forum aint it.

Exactly mate, I enjoy the debate and craic and clearly so do you, so it’s a shame you miss that craic when banned.

So just keep the job right mate!
People same to have totally written of Woakes because of his record over there.

However imo he is a much improved player than 4 years ago

will do

Woakes has improved yeah I agree but I’m not convinced in Australia. Also it’s the make up of the attack ain’t it. Woakes alongside broad and Jimmy isn’t the answer

it’s not just about pace there but he’s not the tallest either is he

he is gonna play in the first test mind with no stokes

they’ve totally wasted another year of Jack leach mind h

he was full of confidence after India and they should have just backed him, now he’s going there totally uncertain

just a total mismanagement by silverwood, and it is him because we never didn’t play a spinner before he arrived

I think Oz would win in all circumstances but it shouldn’t be forgotten we are arriving there jaded, in a pandemic and without our best team

even if it were equal that would give Oz the edge

literally played no cricket at all they’ll ge so refreshed
Already played 9 tests against India in a year. 9!!!!

they didn’t learn from when we killed off the 2013 team with back to back ashes

I think the issue with Woakes is that he tends to put it there rather than hitting the pitch, his action doesn’t take advantage of his height (he’s 6ft2)

comparing to shorter players like Bumrah and Wagner anyway

yeah fair point.I hadn’t realized he was that tall, he’s got bit better at that lately, albeit he has hardly played

if you had say stokes, archer, Jimmy, Woakes, that looks balanced doesn’t it?

you take stokes and archer out then you have a similar looking attack to the last tour there and Woakes becomes not as useful

the interesting question for me is when they use wood, he can’t play them all. He has to play first test you’d say.

so 2 of Jimmy, Woakes, broad and Robinson to miss out

although only 1 if they don’t play leach? Which is likely

we do have options I just don’t think it’s balanced and they are too similar

Might have a bet on now

my feeling is stokes will go

then I can lay it off and take the profit

Imagine having him as your coach man

I wathed like 2 episodes of that Amazon thing, utter shite at was just PR

but there is a bit I saw when he confronts Finch when he didnt review, couldnt believe it, suprised Finch didn't stick the nut on him.

This is why if Stokes can somehow get on plane we have a chance, their players really dont like him.
He's just a classic LinkedIn guy - we've all worked with/ know the types, think they're dead clever but actually know nowt - except he is/was good at cricket, which saved him from a life of recruitment or sales.

Good player, shite coach.

my feelings on the Ashes is that if England win it is great but if not then it is just kind of acceptable, only really bothered if there is something to get excited about

It just doesn't feel right this time around. Too much uncertainty with Covid, players not fully focussed etc. Don't even know whether the 5th test will be played, will it be red or pink ball, where will it be played. The rubbish prep and on the back of the 2020 world cup has just given it a different and worse feel. Just got to see how it pans out.

Starting to look forward to it not. Not out of any real hope for England but I love the build up to it starting at midnight and watching in the dark while it’s freezing outside.

I think the lack of away fans is a shame but great to have the Aussies there anyway. A BCD Ashes would have been shite.

They'll be loads of ex-pats there surely?

I'm looking forward to it also. I've watched sport too long to completely write off teams. Always seems teams are more dangerous when they have nowt to lose.

I agree I haven’t got massive confidence in England but they are vulnerable these days even at home. I expect Australia to win but I wouldn’t be shocked beyond belief if we give them a good series.
