Honeyman Transfer Rumour

Afternoon Makems, Bristol City fan here, firstly I'd like to say condolences on missing out in the play offs I was hoping you'd come up over Charlton.

To cut to the chase there's rumours down our way that we are in for Honeymoon, but it appears the rumours have apparently came from your end. With such a busy forum I was surprised I haven't seen anything on here and I'm sure it's made up but I thought I'd ask anyway. I'd be surprised if we were in for him because, with respect, the small amount I've seen from him he's looked gash & I don't think he's good enough for a team competing in League One.

Best of luck neat season & I hope you get promoted, without trying to blow smoke up your asses, you're far too big for the league you're in. Oh and finally if you can do over the scummers (Portsmouth) and make sure they aren't promoted then I'd be extra grateful, thanks!

Please take him I'll pay you

Good post, JR playing him as a weird version of a number 10 has really affected his form. GH doesnt really have a role to be honest but looks much better wide, always gives everything he has and i find a lot of supporters attitudes towards him really poor

Fuck off George your shit

He is capable of being a mid table championship player, not behind the striker mind but still.

Great player loves Bristol would do well in the championship he will also drive you forward as captain, it’ll be a wrench to us but he needs to move upwards please tell your chairman this, all the best !

I like Honeyman, he's a 100% trier but a bit small for central midfield, not quite quick enough for right wing and not really skilful enough for number 10. He can play all those positions to some extent though so as a utility squad player that may yet develop a bit he could actually be a useful signing for the right money. For us he's one of five quite diminutive players competing for what should really only be one spot so I'd, slightly reluctantly, let him go with my best wishes.
It sounds like he has all the requisite skills for an averagely trundling right back. Maybe we should have tried Honeyman at RB and O'Nien at 10.

Nah you aren’t are ya? You’re not comparing Henderson to Honeyman are you?

Henderson was a talented player who often struggled to stamp any kind of authority on a game. It was clear he could control a ball, pass, cross and sometimes go past a player. In the top flight also.

Honeyman hasn’t got a great deal of passing ability, he isn’t much of a goalscoring threat, he lacks physical presence, he rarely goes past a man and hasn’t the ability to control a game. He is a willing and committed runner at times. I think most of his committed running tends to be away from the ball as he doesn’t like to have it at his feet.

He seems a genuine and nice lad so it even makes me feel guilty to criticise him but he isn’t a good footballer. I don’t think he’d stand out in the league below and I thought he was very out of his depth last season in the championship. Captaincy hasn’t improved him.

I think a move away from Sunderland could be beneficial for him and our club tbh.
Not at all. I always rated Henderson very highly. I was just pointing out peoples opinions on here are negative about certain players. Everyone making out Honeyman being captain is part of the reason we came up short. I don't think he should be captain, but it will have no bearing on the way we have came up short. The louder voices will still have had their say

I'm all for selling him for a few million, and buying someone with a bit of pace and talent. I do wonder if our scouts can find one of those pace and talent players though.

Honeyman could be a decent player. He showed glimpses in our relegation season in the championship but hasn’t really stood out in League 1.

He was given the captaincy at the club this season and although that was undoubtedly a proud personal milestone it made him virtually undroppable - something his performances didn’t warrant.

His work rate can’t be faulted but I’m not sure the manager knows his best position.

Henderson was playing for England and Liverpool at 20 year old.

Honeyman is 25 in a couple of months and is failing to cope with league 1 football.

You know this though surely?
Aye but we are not in the premier league so i don't expect premier league standard players. He's ok. He's not great, but he's not as bad as many make out

Some need to remember that despite his limitations, at least he's given a shit about the club. He didn't hide like some so called professionals we've had in the last couple of years, some who refused to play.

If he was to goes I hope any transfer fee is used wisely for a replacement CM

Well said.

He's not bad IMO. He's very small, energetic, scores one or two goals and generally quite tidy but unspectacular in play. He had a ridiculous pass completion ratio before the season just ended, but it's not been so good this season. The problem is this season he's played as an attacking midfielder to support the striker, mainly there to close the opposition down and he's been a bit lost doing it and suffered poor form and his inclusion has been criticised as a result. That and that we have a pretty small team and a central midfield which lacks a physical presence/mobility. That's the problem with him - I favoured him wide, but he's not a winger really, just not sure where to play him.

You wont get much of a balanced opinion on him on here I'm afraid, but he's potentially a decent player.
Does it say how many of his passes were backwards or how many touches per pass? Genuinely interested in this

Just out of interest could you tell me what you think he is good at?

I'm not sure I've seen an attacking minded midfielder who passes the ball as poorly as he does.

So do I. I also think he's a poor player
