Honeyman to Hull?

Agreed again - but then I’m also in the camp that we had a team that should have won the league by a mile with a different manager. So again I think the criticism of the players is harsh.

Who is the next captain? Good question - we’ve sold all of the obvious candidates. So either need to give it to a young newbie (which is odd), or an unpopular older player (which is odd). Goalkeeper maybe or mcgeady (neither of which look like leaders Tbf)
Replying to the first paragraph.
Joey Barton said he would have won the league with that team. I cannot say he wouldn't.
Second paragraph. I have a sneaky feeling for Dobson to be captain, too young? I think Leadbitter or Mcgough out of the older players would be his choice.
Probably end up with Gooch.

Difficult to assess him as a player. His work rate could never be questioned and I suspect he will find it carries less pressure playing for Hull.

I think part of the problem was as a grafter willing to give 100% he came to prominence when the club was full of really bad characters. These qualities saw him promoted to a level which possibly was beyond him. I’m sure he carried out all the off field responsibilities of captain with impeccable standards but unfortunately his qualities as a player didn’t make him stand out as someone who demanded a first team shirt every week.

Ross struggled to find a role in which he excelled and using him as a ‘number ten’ was an experiment that went on far too long for all parties.

If the move comes off I wish him well and hope we reinvest the money on a genuine playmaker.

Work rate, and a willingness to "hod carry". He wasn't best served in our system last season because the DMs sat far too deep in general, giving him too much ground to cover. That has the potential to be a problem again, no matter who plays in that position. It needs one of the DMs to come forward when we are in possession.

Then's he's norra DM, sack the DM's and just attack....

Willis was Coventry captain, wasn't he?

I'm a bit 50/50.

People saying he's crap , but league 1 is rammed full of even worse footballers.

But, he's likely the next one on the list for high(Ish) wages and I'm all for absolutely bottoming us out on the wage bill. It'll set us up for years to come.

But that will mean nothing if our squad in 8 days time is far far worse for letting Oviedo, cattermole, Honeyman etc leave.
Do you know what the League 1 transfer window closes on 2nd September? I only found out recently.

I feel part of the problem was making him captain as it felt like we had to shoehorn him into the side and as you point out playing him as a no 10 was an experiment that went too far

Not sure I’d give any credence to anything Joey Barton said so wouldn’t exonerate the players on the strength of it
