Gutted it's over

Nice to have the break especially when things have ended so well. We've got a few months to rub it in so I'll bask in that for a while

Every game, especially early doors and then towards the end, felt like a cup final with a huge amount at stake and it was mentally draining.

As fans, we can go into the summer with our feet up. A World Cup coming up and European football to look forward to next season.

Think of how gutted we'd all feel now if Chelsea had equalised. It'd be the longest summer of all time (and not in a good way).
Poor keeping led to a very anxious end to a game that we were way the better team.

Normally looking forward to the World Cup, just want it over so we can get back to the important stuff.
Perfect summer for it imo. Couple of weeks to bask in what just happened. A solid month of football almost every single day. A couple of weeks of build-up. And then we go again.

Class.

Since yesterday, yeah, a bit.

The playoff win, the amazing transfer window where every day was a buzz of excitement, the way so many of them integrated and established chemistry so quickly, the fantastic start, proving everyone wrong, beating the Mags twice, and the late push into 7th.

It’s been a class calendar year. Real Football Monthly stuff. A year like that just hasn’t happened in my lifetime!

We used to turn late fuck-ups into an art form. Losing at the death. Not turning up. It’s what conditioned so many of us to always expect the worse to cushion the disappointment. No more!

Promotions were always (Keane aside) tempered by mediocre-at-best summer spends, where you just knew we’d have bought players to struggle to survive. 1999 was an outlier because we had a Prem-ready team to start with. Last summer was so different - we aimed for quality players based on data, and recruitment was built around a plan.

We are all greedy for more now. It’s about time. I’m sad it’s over but excited for next year.

Same here with the bairn. In addition to that we also had a wedding and honeymoon thrown in.

It has been by far the best year of my life, with SAFC playing a massive part in it.

May 2025 - May 2026 will always be special and live long in the memory.
Congratulations! I feel very much the same.

Our wedding is on the day of the Europa League draw

I think it ended perfectly. No matter what happens in years to come, these last 2 seasons will always be special, and I think we're pretty much guaranteed a unique one next year.

We are living in the good old days.

Need the break and to save money for next season to be honest

Pre-season fixtures will be out fairly soon I presume, which I always look forward to.

Since this manager came in I just can’t get over how the most un Sunderland things are happening.
Comfortably making the play offs with plenty to spare.
Scoring the last gasp winner in the second leg against Coventry.
Scoring two late goals including an injury time winner in the final.
Then to top it all off first season back up never suffering the stress of a relegation battle, we do our business the last game of the season and the rest of the results go our way and we qualify not got the Conference but the Europa League.
What the fuck is happening this just isn’t the Sunderland way!

Anyone else on a bit of a downer now the season's finished?

What a season this has been man. Absolutely tremendous. It's been an absolute joy start to finish.
Been the best season in my lifetime. Looking forward to seeing how our lads do for their countries in the World Cup and, hopefully like last year, there will the nice summer distractions of great new kits and interesting signings without the stress of worrying how we’re actually doing. But yes, missing it already.

Yes and no, it's been a wonderful 12+ months but we've got plenty to look forward to. I'll be watching the euro league qualifying rounds (start 3 weeks today) which I've never done before. We've got the World Cup which starts even sooner as well and despite the ridiculousness of it's size and how many qualify out the group stages I'll still watch tonnes of it. We've also got transfer rumours galore and Dembele coming to sign for us

The qualifying rounds start in 3 weeks, get watching a bit of that to see some of our possible opponents
This.

The last 12 months have been the best in my lifetime (40 years old) with amount of big games ending in epic performances and results (a last minute winner at SJP man!), promotion in the most dramatic style then someone how followed by Europe to stick it to everyone who said we'd be going straight down.

BUT this is the first summer I can remember in ages when I've felt confident about the year ahead as well as well as so proud of what we've just achieved.

In the meantime we can look forward to our summer transfer business and do some armchair scouting at the WC whilst pulling our hair out at England balling it up again.
