Gus set the parameters for the summer business in terms of player type. Gus is on record as having final say. Gus is the one who insisted that we chase Borini to the ends of the earth. Gus got the vast majority of his first choice targets according to all of the NE press pack and its only last week that the histrionic, teflon gobshite was saying that this is now his team. Congerton gets to do the donkey work, ensure that we sign players that the club can afford and get kicked around by a git massive latin fanny from time to time.

This Oliver Twist act from managers is extremely tedious at the best of times. However, leaving aside questions of opportioning blame Gus' latest little outburst is designed to do nothing more than attempt to absolve him of blame. So Gus is established as a man who will happily damage the club to try to protect himself. It won't be his skills as a coach that end his time with SAFC, it'll be his f***ing mouth - which is the frustrating thing.

And do you discard the international players that were here last season and are not now? They had more of a backbone than their replacements, clear in the fact that there were no 8-0 drubbings last season.

Thanks for mentioning 'international' as well, as San f***ing Marino, against England away from home managed to keep the score down better than we did yesterday and they are a team of semi pros.

Back to your original point, there were places where we needed to strengthen and imo we didn't. Up front for a start.

No they were Not ??

Starting the season with Oshea and Brown (another year older & slower) said many times. A midfield week as fuck and lacking any sort if play maker it skill. Borini not replaced and a very poor forward line.

Most sensible threads I've read were not happy with our squad?

1. They get given new 1 year contracts, or
2. They go running to the CEO who fires the f***ing manager.

Our youth system produces fuckall and yet the bloke who has been in charge for 15 years seems to be unsackable.

We really are no nearer to having a good team/club than we were when I came in supporting them in 1971.

Southampton and Swansea are examples of well run clubs that have an ethos, plan ahead and know what they're doing. We are at the other end of the spectrum. We do hot have knowledgeable football administrators at the club and it shows. We are where we are and it certainly won't get any better under this regime, at least not in the current financial climate.
