Footballer John Barnes says former FA chairman Greg Clarke referring to footballers of colour as “coloured” was unfortunate, but he should not pay for it with his livelihood

what about saying south Asians prefer to work in IT, coming out is gay a life choice, girls prefer to kick a football than have it kicked at them?

clearly a dinosaur who is completely out of touch with the modern world. You can’t possibly have such an individual at the top of football’s governance. Of course he had to go.

Best off asking John Barnes

What I find alarming is outside political forces seem to want to decide who is leading the FA.

The FA is an independent organisation and should be making its own decisions.

Has anyone here actually listened to the original comments in context?
Clarke didn't say he thinks girls don't like the ball being kicked at them.
He was quoting a female coach of a girls football team who had told him that she has trouble finding anyone to play in goal because the girls prefer to kick the ball than to have it kicked at them.
It wasn't his opinion, it was the opinion of the coach and probably applies to boys football too!
He was arguing very strongly for an increase in investment in women's/girl's football.

errr he did say South Asians and Afro Caribbean's have different career interests ! wtf is that all about
and that female goalkeepers at a young age, dont like having the ball kicked at them !

It's like something middle aged blokes say in the pub

I guess you are not middle aged ? just ageist ;)

Nobody can say anything that causes offense nowadays without getting the tin tack!
It's a much bigger issue than this though, it's about working towards equality and not using someone's gender, sexuality, race etc as a point of humour against them.

Wonder how many people on here chanted he's a wog a wog and you black bastard in the 70s and 80s or told jokes about the Irish, Blackies, Spiks and women , just a thought

WE should celebrate differences, while never seeing any humour in them. Only mention people's strengths without noticing their weaknesses. Never notice the differences as well as the similarities. Seems a rather short-sighted philosophy.

Paul Elliott is being linked with the role... the same Paul Elliott sacked by the FA in 2013 for making racist remarks .... and by racist I mean actual racist words in a racist way ... couldn’t make it up with the FA if he gets the job.

Hope he does - the irony would be wonderful!

(Used to like him on Football Italia as well, mind)
