Greek Island Holiday Help

How would you rate Crete, Corfu, Zakinthos and Skiathos against each other?
Got to rate Skiathos as my fave as married there( i know), great little island although getting cosmopoliton and hence price rises..Some very quiet resorts and great beaches such as Troulos and Koukanarious.

Crete is fantastic too, recently stayed in Koutafalari and old Hersonisis...very traditional greek , but not on the coast, approx 30 mins on foot..10 by car.

Was in Corfu in August in a tiny resort called Aghious Georgious North.
Fantastic family run hotel called Costas Golden Beach..Hotel is right on a huge beach..lots of beach bars/ restaraunts.
Been there 3 times, absolutley immaculate, and the lad in the bar married a lass from Silky, so gets over for games and hates the mags..
Currently in Zante, small resort called Vasilikas, lovely beach but very quiet compared with Argassi along the road (5/6km), like bloody Backpool.

But all in all, prices remain prety constant around the islands...15-18€ for main course, 5€ for a large beer, 7-9 € for a martini type drink and 10-12€ for a cocktail.
Hope this helps.

Not something I'm aware of tbh . I'm not a wine drinker ,I dare say the house stuff in the mountains is cheap . We tend to do one main evening meal and 2 or 3 beers .
I think Instagram etc has helped Greece ,lots of it is stunning and reasonably unspoilt.
Greece became an alternative to Spain and Turkey it seems . I visited Bay of Marathon near Athens in the 80s and visited , Aegina, Hydra and Poros . Back then Hydra prices were treble to the other islands .

I remember in the restaurants chicken was weighed and paid depending on it .

Not bragging but been to Crete in June, Corfu in August and currently in Zante.
12e for a cocktail, 4.50-6 for a pint and 7-9e for something like martini & lemonade.
Pretty standard accross the islands unless way off beaten track.Paid 45e last night for 2 pizas and pint and half.
Last year in Skiathos we paid slightly more.
Greece is getting more and more expensive.
Was in corfu a couple of years and couldn't believe the prices. Was going through Euros like no-one's business.

Hi, done Skiathos 20 times, it’s our place. Done Koutouloufaris and Old Hersonnisos, loved Sofas taverna, but very interested in your comments re Corfu. Never been and that Costas Golden Beach sounds great. Will check it out.

Mate just back from Corfu said 15 eu for a cocktail, 9 eu vodka coke , 5 eu a pint .

Wanting to book Crete for next year , anyone know if similar prices ?

The owner is a pub landlord and certainly wouldn’t choose expensive places . He sells beer in his pub 2.50 a pint here 🙂
We did Corfu for 2 weeks in August - 4 euro a pint tops, 5-8 euro a cocktail, 5-6euro basic spirit and mixer

Thanks for that mate , I was going to try some small quiet coastal resorts in Crete . Is that possible ?
I went to a small fishing village called Bali in May 2024. Loved it. Was cheap as chips as well. Two mains and a couple of carafes of wine for c30 euros. Dessert and raki for free. Can't remember the name of the hotel it was 3 star but we were lucky enough to get the best room/apartment. sea views from three sides got to see the sun rise and set from the balconies. Not all the rooms were that great.
Only problem was getting there. 3 hour transfer then because it's all very steep the bus drops you at the church at the top then you have to haul your cases down to the port then back up the other side. Was quiet in May, we stayed near the port but there were plenty of beach bars and hotels around the bay which wasn't as steep.

Just got back from a cheeky solo trip to Cyprus. About an hours taxi ride from Paphos airport near Latchi port and Polis beach. Hardly anybody there!! Exactly what I was after having had the crowds of Ibiza earlier in the summer. Similar to Bali but without the hills.

Two decent options if you want quiet.

Was in Chania in Crete in late August . amazing weather , never saw a cloud for 10 days. Very nice place . Visited Souda bay and Stavros Beach . Fancy going back to Crete to stay at one of the other resorts.

Good shout on bali, never stopped over but popped as a stop off for coffee during day . Transfers sound a bit mad .

Bali was the next village along the coast towards Heraklion from where we stayed at Panormos. It is virtually equidistant from Chania and Heraklion so a bit of a trek from the airport but not too bad if you have a car.

Not really, between sidafi and kassiopi.

We did stay in kalami a couple of years back and that was stupidly expensive though
Interesting, maybe it depends what rent the local bars /restaurants pay or if they own them . Makes a massive difference here .
Greed comes into it as well here 🥹

We stayed in Kassiopi (Corfu) this August and prices were reasonable. Around 4.5-5 Euros for a large Mythos and between 10-12 for a cocktail. Meals varied but generally you can have a good quality main for anything between 14-20 (more if you go to Janis restaurant!)
Kassiopi is a lovely resort

just back from there (Lassi). you will probably be on the flight now. we all loved it. stayed at marrianas which we have on a number of occasions. did notice however that not as busy as usual. I think people just be cautious for whatever reason. if going with TUI, buying aftershave on the plane, on the return journey, there is an extra 20% off. have fun
We've been to Lassi 3 times in recent years, really liked it ( obviously, went 3 times), but the weather was shite last year which finished us off after a couple of the great beach bars we like were removed by the local govt nazis. Probs for the best I dont go back after repeatedly making a tit of myself dancing in the disco bar/club after too many caiprinha's.
You got any restaurant recommendations? Were going to Lassi next wednesday for 10 days. Staying at the lorenzo residence apartments. Seems to be in a good spot, near the strip of bars and restaurants. Definitely hiring a car too, for the time we're out there.
Butlers house on the lassi strip does all the traditional stuff pretty well, and you get a hilarious rendition of Delilah by one of the waiters who still doesn't know the words after singing it 4000 times, " sheeee waaas my laughing ha ha ha ha"

It's the Durrell connection there I think also helps bump up prices.

tbf it was an airport transfer so went around the houses. I'd consider hiring a car next time. Maybe 90 mins direct trip. There didn't appear to be any taxi's in Bali. There was one of those train bus things which terminated outside the hotel I was staying at.

We use a combo of private options
Airport transfer bus
Shared taxis
Normal Bus . Good cheap option right along that top coast main road

What I find great with Greece is your custom is not seemingly taken as a “ given “ like in some countries .
Maybe that’s because the local people have had it rough financially and appreciate people can pick and choose wether to return or as I like believe they are just genuinely nice .
Always find Greece to be friendly laid back and a great place to relax .
The Mosa beach bar/restaurant in Kiotari is a tremendous place to chill on Rhodes
