According to the Twelver Shia scholars, as per Sunnah, the length of beard should not exceed the width of a fist. Trimming of facial hair is allowed; however, shaving it is haram (religiously forbidden).

I believe the prophet Muhammad instructed his followers to grow a long beard, but my knowledge on Islam isn’t amazing.
