Don't agree Stephan. There are plenty on here who suggest he is the best keeper at the club by a country mile, that he international quality, that one of the big clubs will be in for him etc. Not you perhaps, but plenty of others! I disagree - he's average at best.

Keep going.

Your argument (if you could ever call it that) was torn apart, and all you have left is a little kiddy tantrum.

Ha ha..

You should change your name to "Alan Pardew"

Is it a good picture on flash sport streams??

Chris, yes, and yes.
McMackem, agreed, I have NOT said Craig cost us the points. My focus is on his regular inabilty to deal with searching crosses.

Certainly got one right - no way his wall will ever have a cap on display.

Was class today considering they gave us the warning about it not being HD!

It was very good on laptop - the difference only kicked in when I put it to a large screen tv - steady but very low res - went back to the laptop fullscreen - which is fine. Steaming has come so far so quickly.

But you have to admit his shot stopping has saved us many more points, fantastic reflex saves time and time again.

But that's his job tartan. To flip your argument, are you saying Gordon should stay rooted UNLESS the the trajectory and aim are in Gordon's favour. F me....can imagine it...Craigy boy, stay rooted unless you are 100% certain you will get it. Unbelievable.

A keeper should stay in position unless he is confident he can get to the ball.
If he fails to get the ball it is easier for the striker to score than if he didn't come for it and stayed on his line, as the striker still needs to put the ball past him.
Thats just simple percentages.

you and I will have to agree to disagree ;-)
I think when playing regularly he is among-st the top 6 keepers in the league and the best one at sunderland

For Scotland!!! Now, remind me where they are in the FIFA world ranking. Not his fault he's Scottish, but I'm not sure you'd be happy with the international keeper Jens Martin Knudsen (Faroe Islands)!!!

That Montgomery must have been shit then

Agreed Jonny, and that is the crux. If he hasn't got the confidence to deal with the cross we are talking about then we have a serious problem if he is going to be our No 1 keeper.

Our other 2 keepers have also been caught out on crosses or have you not noticed?

Well, I only saw Monty as a youngster so I can't really remember. I do know he made a meal of his double save.

Yep, I've noticed. But no-one on here is arguing that they are top six premiership material.

I knew confidence would be the wrong word and be jumped on.
He claims things further out than the six yard box when he can get to them.

It is the weakest part of his game, and an important one, but one you would hope training can improve. It seems to make more sense to work on that - once back in the sticks regular I honestly think there is little else wrong, Mignolet may come good, but there are problems in so many departments to be addressed.

I suppose the ultimate question is do we have a keeper that can be part of a top six team - I think an injury free Gordon is of that standard - I know you disagree, and I think either Westwood or Mignolet is good enough to be cover. But if Gordon is off I wouldn't be happy with a Mignolet/Westwood reliance next season.

So if Gordon is away I think we need to acquire a keeper, but if he isn't I'd put that down the list and concentrate on our other deficiencies. In a year of course if he hasn't had a good seaon he could be moved on for a fee - which is not something we can do right now.
