Getting the best out of Brobbey.

That's the point though if he can occupy 2 players the others aren't pulling their weight enough going forward in the spaces hes creating

This. None of us are professional footballers or paid millions to pick a team and tell them how to play, but football is a really basic game. If Brobbey is occupying two players, that means someone else has to be unmarked, especially if he's taking two centre backs out of position.

There is obviously method to what RLB is trying to do but sometimes I struggle to understand it.

Getting the best from Brobbey is largely the same as getting the best from Isidor/Mayenda.

Have a plan B and C and be able to adapt in game.

As soon as we had the option of a 'target man' we changed to ball to feet and play our way into the box looking for an opportunity.

We're predictable.

Forest doubled up on Brobbey with two giants who won everything and they didn't care about leaving space behind them as we had no one looking to run beyond them. Early season we sat deep surrendered possession, high press in our third, nick the ball and flood the attack quickly with numbers..we barely ever even try this now.

If Brobbey starts I'd go back to the early season tactic of pairing him with Talbi as he is quick, breaks well and has a decent shot from outside the box but we need a way to change it up and start playing fast balls into the channels or behind the defence for Isidor and Mayenda to offer different options when it isn't working.

He won't get a run unless he shows more

Got to be on the pitch first to do anything. He got benched in the next game after he scored a cracker. Young lad who'll probably need his confidence building up, not knocking down. This league is tough to come in to. Lads with much bigger price tags have struggled. I just don't think we've seen enough of him yet, and Regis has favoured caution by playing 5 CM's.

Has unique qualities with his strength and hold up abilities but I’m getting the feeling that opposition clubs are sort of working us out. Only a handful of players are actually able to compete legally with him…I thought Milenkovic did well on Friday, Mings and Konsa also Lacroix of Palace. The others are constantly fouling him and refs are ignoring it. The issue we have is that our wings are largely redundant and no-one is playing off Brobbey effectively. The two defence splitting passes from Le Fee against Villa and the man running through are the blueprint but unfortunately that wasn’t Brobbey on the pitch at that time.
The way I see it there are basically two games.

The one where he can come and collect the ball, turn and lay it off (whether that's because he's got the better of his defender or he's not being tracked)

Or

The one where he's got a shadow all game and he's being fouled (maybe outplayed) and we need to get runners into the spaces he's leaving behind.

To get the best out of him, we need fluid tactics that the players can adapt to on the fly.

Because we waste his presence. Look at what happened on Friday with all that pissing around at the back. We couldn’t get the ball forward far enough for him to do anything.

Oh I wholeheartedly agree. I meant he’s not the answer if we continue to play the way we do.

Our style of play at the minute suits Isidor much more.
Slightly off topic but I will never understand the madness that is those f***ing triangles at the back. I get that they can be effective if they're the foundation for beating the press, but Forest absolutely hounded us and we just kept doing it.

As for Brobbey, holding up the ball is pointless unless whilst you're holding it up, other players are moving into positions to receive the ball from you.

The triangles at the back is just the latest fad, most teams do it but most of those teams aren’t good enough to do it and 9 times out of 10 the ball just ends up walloped up field anyway.
He has been largely poor

Let’s been honest our winger signings have been on the whole poor.

Angulo has showed more already i reckon

Exactly this. He is great at hold up but not a great goalscorer.

His goals to chances ratio is excellent. We dont create. Think he is a cracking player if we can just set up to maximise his talents. If thats better crossing, earliar pass or rapid counters.

Not sure Angulo has shown anything other than determination off the ball. Talbi will score goals but he needs playing week in and out in order to improve.

Angulo does look good tbf, but even he was bought as a left winger, but has been used on the right. I just don't think we're balanced enough at the moment, and we favour a tighter more rigid approach, which often takes away from our attacking players.

We definately need more height and power in the side. Both Forest and Villa teams had a distinct advantage over us.

It’s poor Wilson I feel sorry for. Love Brobbey but in my opinion Wilson is the better goalscorer. It’s ok to beat holes into defences but if you haven’t got anybody to exploit them then it’s a pointless exercise!

There isn't a simple solution and we're going to need a bit of a reshuffle in the summer to improve the attack.

It's very obvious we need someone either alongside Brobbey or who will make runs from deeper to support. Diarra was signed as that player and has shown promise but far too few and far between. Le Fee is our most creative player but he's the supplier not a runner.

Probably the most logical solution would be to stick with 433 but sign a right winger who will cut inside and get up alongside. Traore kind of did that but AFCON/injuries coincided with Brobbey starting games so we never really saw them together. Ideally an upgrade on him though.

Yeah, I think this is it in a nutshell. I'm not writing Diarra off yet as he could become the player to make runs beyond Brobbey but ultimately the wingers are the players who we need to run in behind.

I've heard people calling for Le Feè to be the 10, but that suits Isidor or a striker that runs in behind rather than one who wants the ball to his feet, back to goal.

Of course, the other option is to cash in on Brobbey, sign a striker that runs in behind and will score more goals and then use Le Feè in the 10. That would also allow the wingers to keep supporting the midfield and defence as a first priority.

But we've already got a striker that runs in behind in Wilson, but Regis won't play him. Selling Brobbey to buy another would send us backwards.

It's not the striker that's the problem here, it's the way we set up. It's safety first over attack. Keep it tight, try and nick it in the 2nd half.

Our play doesn't favour the striker, as he's not the priority.

I'm struggling to remember the last time Talbi played well? He's got a goal him in certainly. Cracking shot against the mags but his all around game hasn't been great most of the season.
He’s our second most top scorer and I think the best on minutes to goals.

He’s also the only threat we seem to have outside the penalty area…
