According to the echo article on him he played 23 and was sidelined once Clement came in as he didn’t fancy him. Unless I read it wrong?
Was an integral part of Stam’s side that got to the Playoff final too according to that piece.

If we get him and Wyke, after sealing McGeough, I think I'll start to trust Ross. He seems to know what we need, creativity and strenght in midfield plus a strong striker who scores for fun at this level. And all 3 fairly young (23-26 year olds).

Exclusive: Sunderland close in on deal for Reading midfielder George Evans
An England Under-19 international, he made 23 appearances in the Championship last season before losing his place once Clement took over from Jaap Stam.
Under Stam the previous season, Evans became an intergral part of the Reading side which reached the Championship play-off final at Wembley.
Evans sprung to prominence as a youngster at Manchester City when he made his debut for the club as a substitute against Sunderland in the Capital One Cup in 2015, becoming only the second City player to have represented every single age group of the Academy, right through to the first-team.
