Why do you say that, it's possible i'm in sunderland more than you?

Regardless when the term first appeared, every single person I know class/call themselves mackems. Get the odd older guy(my old man) who'll say Geordie like.

I was born in the Hendon area, never heard anyone under 50 class themselves a Geordie.

Not saying you shouldn't, just that we don't.

If you weren't happy with the official club nickname you should've picked your own then, not lay down and accept one invented and forced on you by local rivals.
No tyneside based sunderland fans i know would ever surrender and accept it.

But it has nothing to do with football for most of them, some of my pals hate football - still class themselves mackems. I was born there, I know..

Surrender

How would they know what it's got to do with, they didn't invent the word or the definition of it. You'd have to ask a newcastle fan of the meaning, most "mackems" didn't even know that's what they were being called till a few years later.

No one said they invented, I'm telling you what they class themselves as.

I don't care if ur in sunderland a lot, I was born there and have friends born there - not one would call themselves a Geordie and we are all mid 30's..

Older guys might, younger guys born Hendon, ryhope, roker all say mackems(who I know anyway)

Piston's embarrassing himself here mind

Not in the slightest. It's a bit sad that genuine people like yourself don't even know the real history of their own city and football club. Even sadder that "some" of the older generation from that area don't put them right on a few facts.
I say "some" because this type of thread's been done many times and there's a good few people from sunderland who aren't afraid to tell the truth and have done, well done to them.

Oh, and by the way, it's "PISTON".

I said my dad says Geordie, ex ship builder who classes everyone a Geordie.

Younger generation it's mackem, wether you like it or not.

I'm glad I don't get lumped in as a Geordie, where I live ppl think Geordies are drunken cretins from jezza Kyle...

aye they based, ffs there grounds in newcastle city centre, there as geordie as greggs stottie cakes lol
Are you really that thick that you don't understand that there are tons of Geordies that are Sunderland supporters that since 1992 are being lumped in with them up the road?

Have been on another planet or something?

the people of sunderland have embraced the word mackem and are proud of it,its a wearside based club so we all follow a mackem club[DOUBLEPOST=1386424752][/DOUBLEPOST]

They had no f**king choice. They were branded as "mackems" by others, not themselves.
Whether or not they either just accept it nowadays or even embrace it is irrelevant. They didn't invent the term, it was forced on them.
Most weren't even aware of the term being used until years later.

Thousands of diehard sunderland still refuse to accept the term because of where it came from. This thread's been done a thousand times already, use the search button.

It's explained to you and you still don't understand!?.

The OP is assuming that *ALL* Geordies are Mags.

He is *NOT* assuming that all Mags are Geordies.

There is a massive difference.

If you really don't understand, look at this it's taught at GCSE / O Level

does anyone care? This is the most 'affronted' football forum in existence. Its impossible to hold a conversation without someone ripping into you.

are the people of Sunderland (of which i count myself born and bred) so paranoid that we have to rip each other to sh!t every day. Even worse when there's a late kick off

nee one died. For over 20 years 'geordie' has been associated with fans of Newcastle . End of.[DOUBLEPOST=1386428286][/DOUBLEPOST]
