Geertruida

I guess 09 is the next closest thing we've got? I actually don't think he'd be terrible at this level but he's not in the same league.
I'll definitely need a tin hat here but, if it's for like one game or something, I wouldn't be too worried if O'Nien played. Deep down, I know he's not good enough but my main worry with him is grabbing people in the box which hopefully he wouldn't do. We know he'd do the bare minimum of putting the effort in and covering the ground. We also know he's canny at making himself available for the ball from goal kicks and the likes and might keep it ticking over. He'd put a tackle in when needed. Obviously if it was a month or something I'd be worried mind, and I know he's never had a good run in CDM even at lower levels because it quickly become known he was a CB or nowt. It makes no sense, but I'd be pretty relaxed with him there for a game despite everything telling me he'd be a bomb scare

Bit different when we don't actually own the player in question though. Fair enough we could keep him and he'd have a face like a smacked arse until the Summer or if he's said he's got no intention of signing permanent in the Summer and only wants Liverpool etc hardly worth hanging onto him.
We just have to kick up more of a fuss and demand a decent compensation when these things happen, don't appear to be too accommodating or other clubs will get the wrong idea.. but on the other hand teams will be more likely to loan their talent to us when they see we allowed Guiu and Gerty to go.

I'm not convinced that you've even convinced yourself there mind 🤣

It shouldn't be a thought tbh mate. If Geertruida leaves, we'll need a replacement of his kind of quality. I think we must be in talks with one or two as it makes the decision to let even Neil go out a strange one with it leaving us so short.

If this negotiation is going on then its clear the player wamts to leave as soon as Liverpool have knocked he was gone. Not much Sunderland could do. Pointless keeping a player against his will in that situation we would be stuck with a very demotivated resentfull player. Would have made no difference how many games he played once Liverpool came knocking. Liverpool prob sign him but it will cost them lot more thsn 20 million in the summer. Think his options will be many even if Liverpool don't sign him he has already got other admirers i would think. These are the risk if you go in to loans market??

Thats the reality of the food chain it is what it is but a big blow to the squad. Reading BBC thread on this think Sunderlamd will get about 5 million out of the deal if it happens as they will want 2 million they spent on loan fee in summer plus some.

The option to buy clause is always cognisant of the players wishes and agreement at the time of it being triggered!Your simply wrong and i know its hard for you but it is what it is!..there is no "seldom" and your requiring further acceptance is nonsense..the deal would be worded on the lines of if the club want the player these are the terms of the deal and the final completion will always be down to the player.

It isn't. Super difficult to go all the way back to this summer for proof, not sure why you;re being silly.

The writing was on the wall for Geertruida anyway, I like him as a player but he's not even second choice in any position, never mind first choice. His versatility is great but I'm all for this if it means a proper midfielder and/or defender comes in.
You'd never entertain any view that was massively positive like

I remember you telling me Abdullahi was going to be first team striker and that the fermin link was credible.

Its obviously a blow to us

So you’d be happy if he left and we brought no further midfielders in as long as we bring a defender in? Would leave us a bit threadbare in the CM positions no?

Haway man, do people seriously think he’s thrown his toys out the pram because he didn’t play against West Ham, and suddenly Liverpool happen to be interested?

This’ll have been on the cards for a couple of weeks and RLB’s not going to faff about playing lads whose heads have been turned.
He continued to play Watson
