That would be a strange move then. They'd have to give us compensation to cancel our loan and then also pay Leipzig to take him on loan given that they're also losing out on the permanent deal.

May as well just buy him outright.

Because that would have allowed us to play the same shape as we had versus Palace, just with Geerty instead of Xhaka. Using Mayenda set off a chain reaction that left Hume trying and failing to play a three role hybrid between right back, right mid and centre mid. People just saw Hume have a stinker and thought that it was merely a case of a one for one swap. For me the problem was bigger and more structural. I suspect that Geertruida would have had a similarly tough time trying to cover those three roles that day - albeit he may have been less obviously struggling.
 
I'd like us to keep him, but I'm not sure he's done enough yet for us to have triggered the option on him, given he's supposedly on huge wages.

He's looked okay defensively, a little unconvincing at times - fine in a back 5, less so in a back 4. He's had little time at right back but hasn't exactly made himself undroppable when he has played there.

Been fine in central midfield but evidently a back up option.

10mill is fuck all and not good business if we lose him without and class replacement that is as versatile as him.

Leaves us short going into the business end of the season which is vital

he's an asset as our loan deal has a buy option we can exercise. The club have always said they won't stand in the way of players if the deal works for them.
If they can generate revenue on this deal for a guy who isn't starting every week, Then i'd say it's not exactly a masterstroke, but it's smart business.

I think the point being made was that, in terms of the starting 11, we made one change to the team between Palace and West Ham and that was Mayenda coming in for the injured Xhaka. Obviously, it was more complex than that in terms of where Hume played.

No unfortunately about it, we have to use that to our advantage. Show the best young players the world over they'll get good opportunities here..
 
One solution would be to exercise our option for 20 million euros and then loan him to Liverpool for a loan fee of £5 million.
He comes back into the fold at the end of the season or we then sell him for £30+ million
 
I’d take Curtis Jones as compensation but that’s unlikely to happen, what about Endo ? He’s a combative midfielder
