I think that's the case even with Geertruida though, he's the best option to cover for Xhaka but we should have someone coming in anyway with Neil off, Rigg not an option in the middle and us seemingly missing out on Guendouzi.

Fair enough- its something we needed long term anyway for depth and as Xhaka ages. Just leaves us quite short on time and potentially having to pay more to make it happen. Unless we go for a short term loan move or another young player.

Must be at least someone suitable who is in a similar situation as Geertruida, sitting on the bench in a World Cup year who could cover. Club must also have names as future replacements for Xhaka. Similar to the Omlin/Ellborg transfers.
 
Did/have we a stipulation in place stating we had to buy him if he made so many appearances and thats why he hasn't played much? I massively rate him and cant understand why he hasnt played more. I also would have thought, for £20m, we should have bought him in this window. Isdor type early purchase deal.
 
Didn't we only sign him on loan because we didn't have enough time to complete permanently om deadline day?

Bit of a pisser really as we could've made a quick profit.

My point was that these are not chess pieces, they are players. They actually have a say regardless of what's been discussed or 'agreed' in August. It's not the 1960s.
