FTEB/Yorkshire/Punishment/Fixtures

Back at that time even before this happened I was very critical of David Harker so on the whole we did have to accept some responsibility and punishments but it was hard to accept the severity of it. I'm hearing that taking test matches off Yorkshire would finish them off...... Erm.... Well if that's the case then their finances need looking into as they're clearly financially in bother.... Will they though??? Of course not. Durham were shafted and my understanding is we still can't host test matches yet Yorkshire got a winter ban when cricket isn't played for a massive racism scandal. It's very poor all round but as a Durham fan I'm livid at the comparisons. The ECB have basically given the green light to allow racism within the game. The scandal at Yorkshire was deep rooted and appalling.... No punishment from the ECB. Just says to me they're content for it to carry on
Going over old ground but yes severity of punishment way over the top especially ban on England games.
Harker I believe was just out of his depth when it started going pear shaped but I will always say it was Leach who gave the go ahead to " spend spend spend" after Midgley had run the budget as if we where still in the minor counties.
But this decision by the ECB on Yorkshire with effectively no further action provided you don't mess up again is shocking.

Good afternoon

Given the sanctions imposed on Durham CCC for financial misdemeanours, sanctions that continue to apply, can you please advise as to how you reached the decision you did on Yorkshire CCC?

Whilst I do not want to see Yorkshire CCC in financial trouble, and I personally have a ticket for the test match there this summer, the punishment implies that financial mismanagement from some years ago is a more serious issue than institutional racism.

We can of course debate the severity of the Durham punishment and it’s merits, but this sends a dreadful message on the priorities of cricket in this country.

Very simply:
Yorkshire - institutional racism = no punishment, so as not to bankrupt the club
Durham - financial mismanagement = relegation, points deduction, salary caps + no tests (still). Financial mismanagement including onerous financial penalties, ongoing, is counter to the Yorkshire punishment

I would appreciate a response

Hint: I won’t get one

Think Botham has to have a go at the ECB for the long lasting punishment we are still under from their harsh treatment (and lenient treatment of every one else guilty of the same crime), where as Yorkshire for quite a serious thing just get a little tickle and a happy ending
Will probably announce that three of our home games in the RL50 will be held at Headingley, Scarborough and York.

So just to clarify, Yorkshire’s punishment for the racism scandal was being banned from hosting cricket matches in the winter when no matches were scheduled to be played anyway. Meanwhile several years ago us at Durham got absolutely shafted by the ECB for doing what the ECB told us to do with finances & we are still feeling those punishments now & still can't host test matches............ It seems racism is perfectly acceptable within the ECB. It just doesn't sit well having watched us struggle for years, then the authorities basically go very easy on a far far worse offence. The ECB have basically said racism is fine and any other counties every found guilty or similar, will be fine.

Right, got it............ FTECB
Durham's sanction illustrated the power Graves wielded at ECB. More frighteningly he still appears to have that power even though he now has no position there.

What a load of toss. Which I say as someone with tickets for the summer

Why sould people in the area be stopped from watching international cricket?

I just dont get this argument at all, it would be a travesty for me

Durham's was ridiculous for sure, but I dont see why people in the north should be banned from watching a test match like

They should 100% be relegated but I'm glad they haven't lost international status.

I'm struggling to see exactly what their punishment is other than being told to change? Perhaps I've missed something
If Botham has anything about him he should be lobbying the ECB hard right now to give us test status back

Give us Headingley's Ashes test next year as a compromise and we'll call it even and move on

totally agree,I posted that very sentiment weeks ago . I'm arguing that severe sanctions should be imposed on Yorkshire. If it was seen fit to withdraw test status from Durham then why not from Yorkshire. Tests in alternate years at both venues is the sensible compromise.

I’m fine with that view, and inclined to agree.

The inconsistency is absurd. And rightly fuels peoples views that counties are not treated equally

Hard to disagree
