Ticks a lot of boxes for me and without the baggage of failure, main traits that attracted the new owners to him were his ability to work with a tight budget, great tactical awareness and a big believer in giving youth a chance, apparently Fergie himself and his old assistant who is still at St Mirren as CEO absolutely love him, this is a good choice.

Agree, yet some round here would rather have a 'name' who's success is measured by avoiding relegation, and would give O'Shea an extension, ffs.

If & when he is appointed- confirmed by the pic of him with a scarf tied round his wrist outside the Coll Tav - he’ll get my full support.

Then it’s up to him to either build on that or feck it up

This is my concern too. Recruitment is critical and I’m not sure who is going to be knowledgably covering that this summer. Hopefully scouting was done from Christmas onward, but our track record is poor and we could be swayed by agents. Best of luck to Jack, but I was expecting someone like Hurst who knows the lower leagues in England.

I get the 'knowing' the league argument. It can be beneficial. However, Grayson, McLaren, Jewell and all kinds of other people that have been useless for us or failed all over the place know these types of leagues. It's just a small part of things. If Ross is a good manager it won't matter as much as he will be able to adapt. If he isn't a great manager then his knowledge of the leagues won't make him a good manager. Sometimes you have to look at potential and ability rather than just experience. It has risks, yes. But it's just different kinds of risks. There seems to be a feeling amongst some people that there's a magical group of managers that would be sure things. It's simply not the case. If we should have learned anything over the years it is that there's no such thing as a sure thing. Goodness knows we have tried.

I just don’t see it. Im happy to be proved wrong but I think we need a massive character to implement the changes need as stated by CM. This guy won’t do that as far as I can see.
How do you know about his character? He could demand nothing but excellence and have very high standards for all we know. Its because he's come from st mirren that has blinkered everyone's view, nothing else. Managers have to start somewhere and work their way up.

I’m in. The only SAFC managerial appts I’ve been happy with at the time of appt were Reid, Gus, MoN, BSA. The rest since a Brown I either had no opinion of either way or strongly disapproved of. I’m hoying my lot in with this feller.
The Homesick Jack thing hopefully won’t be a big influence......

Agreed, except for Keane who is my favorite manager of ours in my lifetime because if the way he saw, talked about and acted in regard to SAFC. Respected us more than any other.

Excited to see what Ross does.

That's exactly what they said they were lookin for in the podcast on Monday. He could be a turkey but we should just give him our backing him and give him a chance

Nowhere in my post did I say we were too good for this league. We are where our performances on the pitch deservedly put us. What I said is, and I stand by it, we should be ashamed of being in the third tier of English football and that shame should be all the motivation we need to get out at the first attempt.

Anything other than promotion I'll regard as a failure this season.

And before you start saying people should give their head a shake, try reading the f***ing post.

I've just read your post again and still feel pretty sure that your regarding 'anything other than promotion as failure' makes a huge assumption on us getting to grips with League One as per our experience of the Championship this year. Implicitly, you are saying we are too good for L1. I'll read your posts properly if you make your claims more obvious.

Absolutely this.

I am sick of seeing comments like this. I am over the moon we are shot of 15 of the useless fuckers. There is not one of the 15 lazy arsed cunts I would want to see in a Sunderland shirt again.

Hip Hip Hoo-f***ing-Ray.

A carbonated soft drink from Scotland.
Every country in the world has Coca Cola or Pepsi cola as it’s biggest selling fizzy sugary drink except Scotland which has Irn bru.
The scots are a canny lot. Do some research into Cola, the biggest fraud known to humanity. Battery acid with a hundred spoons of sugar.

A mate of mine is a die hard St Mirren fan. Asked him for his assessment, in particular whether any manager could have had them promoted etc. This was his reply:

"You will not regret this appointment. He is a great manager. And if he wants to sign Stevie Mallan from Barnsley reserves let him get on with it. He's a great creative midfielder and dead ball deliverer who was appallingly underused during the Barnsley melt-down.

We are a well run club but we still have no money. In his 18 months, Jack didn't pay a single transfer fee, had to let last year's best player (Mallan) leave and this year's (Morgan) leave as well (albeit back to us on loan until the league was won). He benched the league's surprising top scorer (Reilly) at Christmas to bring in a new striker (Mullen) who was less surprising but more likely to score without the element of surprise. Oh, and Mullen came initially on a fee free pre contract followed by an accepting the inevitable from...... Livingston who, even without him, ended up second to us in the league.

He thinks strategically, is great with the fans, and reads the game in play brilliantly. Of all the Saints managers I've seen, the only comparator appropriate is Alex Ferguson.

And, finally, he's chosen cleverly with you. A play off place is par, a promotion better and a title, barring relegation, a guarantee of another two years whatever.

He could have gone to Ipswich and hung about mid table until they got bored. He didn't.

He will have a project with your team. I wish him well."
Cheers marra. Can't wait for the new season:)

Why would you want a squad that's 15 players short?
