You can only manage in the league you are in against the other teams in that league. Ross has done just that with magnificent resulrs. He is to be commended. Sounds to me like he's a winner. Alex Ferguson was a nobody outside of Aberdeen at one time but he came good. We've tried the better appointments route and the club just threw money at players who weren't motivated to perform. Time to renew and start afresh in a different direction.

I just don’t see it. Im happy to be proved wrong but I think we need a massive character to implement the changes need as stated by CM. This guy won’t do that as far as I can see.

It is a poor league but he's been competing on pretty much a level playing field or worse to all other managers in that league and beat them all hands down. He could have hardly done any better and has been voted Scottish manager of the year.

Yeah means he was the best in that league for sure, but will that hold much power in league one, its a tough one to answer.

All encouraging stuff but I'd take issue about the above. Like it or not we are going to be strong favourites for just about every game we play next season.

I expect us to win automatic promotion, that for me is par, not the play offs. Forget humility we shouldn't be anywhere near this league and I expect our stay in it to be very short lived.

This is not arrogant - we should graft 100% to achieve our aim but make no mistake SAFC being in the third tier is unacceptable.

Yay, another fan who is without humility throwing about the Mag-style 'turd at white linen' claims of being just too good for this league. Give your head a shake and listen to the absolute realism being spoken about by our new owners. If you can get your head around that then it might stop you booing a young player who misplaces a pass in the first minute of the first home game of the season.

Tell ya marra, thanks ......

& to fuck off ;)

Haway then, amidst the raft of underwhelmed responses, I'm desperately eager to hear who this fictional appointment is? Roy Ferguson, Kevin Allardyce, Jose Di Canio???

I don't go on mag forums, I don't know of any and I'm not interested. The only shìt of theirs I come across online is that sad ranting fat bastard true Geordie cheesecock on YouTube and wánkers on here who just join up to be snide bellends venting their fury cos their mam has shouted at them for all the crispy socks round their beds

Kettle and pot there dicksplash.

How do you know he isn’t a massive character???

Oh what you mean is a name you have heard of? I think we’ve been down that route/rabbit hole a few times

This fella has done very well so far, I accept it’s in a lower league. Those around him are very positive, his peers hugely respectful and there are things about him that show intellect and leadership (MA in Economics and his role in Scottish PFA). Watching his interview it is also clear that he sets the bar high for himself and others around him.

When I put all that together and I compare him to other managers that we have had over the years, it stacks up as evidence of significant and superior potential

I’m very heartened by this appointment. Contrary to your view, I would have been gutted to see another “managerial roundabout” appointment.

Hope I’m proved wrong but he sounds pretty shite to be honest
I was at their away game v ICT a few weeks back. John Robertson (ex mag) the ICT managers prog notes stated that St Mirren were easily the best team in that division an£ had been one of the worst the year before. He’s also just won the sweaty manager of the month. Plus he sounds like an American PI: Jack Ross PI.

I’m in. The only SAFC managerial appts I’ve been happy with at the time of appt were Reid, Gus, MoN, BSA. The rest since a Brown I either had no opinion of either way or strongly disapproved of. I’m hoying my lot in with this feller.
The Homesick Jack thing hopefully won’t be a big influence.....

Errrrrh we’re in the old 3rd division marra. It’s the joint lowest point in our history.

Nobody knows how it’s going to pan out, best we can do is just back him to the hilt and see what happens. At first I was underwhelmed but it makes a change to have someone that’s young and hopefully going to be able to build something rather than us continue our strategy of fire fighting and short termism. He comes with no baggage of previous or notable failures, almost a totally unknown quantity which in itself is canny exciting because we don’t know what to expect. Hopefully him and Donald are backed in numbers at the SOL.

Ticks a lot of boxes for me and without the baggage of failure, main traits that attracted the new owners to him were his ability to work with a tight budget, great tactical awareness and a big believer in giving youth a chance, apparently Fergie himself and his old assistant who is still at St Mirren as CEO absolutely love him, this is a good choice.

The standard of the SPL must be broadly comparable to League 1 / bottom half championship. He's an unknown quantity in some ways, but who wouldn't be in our circumstances? It's the downside to needing someone new and fresh to help us start again, new means unproven unless we're very lucky and get someone like Chris Wilder.

Nowhere in my post did I say we were too good for this league. We are where our performances on the pitch deservedly put us. What I said is, and I stand by it, we should be ashamed of being in the third tier of English football and that shame should be all the motivation we need to get out at the first attempt.

Anything other than promotion I'll regard as a failure this season.

And before you start saying people should give their head a shake, try reading the f***ing post.

I'm happy with how things are going anyway but the amount of Mag twats tucking themselves up nicely by coming on here and getting all wound up over a league one club is delightful.

Their worst nightmare is safc supporters with a club/owner/team to be proud of while they struggle to find anything to like about Ashley, no matter what league they're in. Without us, they're nothing.

I am giving him a chance......I just think his lack of knowledge and experience of managing in English leagues, could be his downfall.

This is my concern too. Recruitment is critical and I’m not sure who is going to be knowledgably covering that this summer. Hopefully scouting was done from Christmas onward, but our track record is poor and we could be swayed by agents. Best of luck to Jack, but I was expecting someone like Hurst who knows the lower leagues in England.

It's promising but we had very similar things on here about Grayson and various other managers.

Night and day as far as I am concerned. Grayson was and always will be a bluffer. I was angry and disappointed last year when we gave him the job as it reeked of a lack of ambition. He was far too starry eyed about SAFC to demand anything which is why he got the job.

This lad is on the up, hopefully we can do that together.

I'm happy not to trust anyone currently at the club and to let this lad judge players on his own merit. We've been so bad for so long we need a change.
