Elbow were sublime at the city hall last night, left with a warm, fuzzy feeling.
He's so good at being a front man!
Seemed an 'elderly' crowd last night, not that that's a bad thing, hardly any phones up all night and only 1 gonk in a football shirt.
It's obviously smaller than an arena. I saw Florence and the machine there as it was her first show back after COVID and her first touring her new album and it definitely had that feeling. She's a festival arena act like so I guess it was strange seeing her in a smaller venue like city hall. She was f***ing amazing, I love it in there tbh especially if your standing it has that intimate feel. Was a great night, though I was knackered after being at the match and drinking through the afternoon - and I am definitely one of the elderly! Thought selling it as an 'intimate' warm up gig for the arenas tour was a bit odd - can't say I've ever thought of the City Hall as intimate, but I guess it's all relative - but Garvey has the ability to make it feel that way. Looking back from the front at a properly packed hall totally up for it, was quite a joyous feeling, got a bit emotional, I must admit.

Unreal like. Take the piss out of the normal indie bandSaw The Voyd at The Bunker last night, do a topper set these lads. I really struggle to see how they haven't made it bigger when you see some of the current bands seemingly doing well. Apparently they struggle to get gigs locally which is why they did last night's gig (only 40 tkts were on sale), hope they don't just give up like so many other local bands like The Docksuns, Social Club etc.
As for other gigs lined up I've got The Stranglers and SLF but need to sell my 2 x Mary Wallopers tickets if anyone is after any, but missed out on From the Jam in May at the Boilerhop but will catch them at the Fire Station in July. Might do Echo & The Bunnymen in March and Stone Valley.
Was gutted to miss this but had tickets for The Voyd so went there instead.
Went wellUnless I end up getting a last minute ticket off a tout for Springsteen, looks like my next one will be Northern Kin.
Good to hear. Going to see him in Hackney tomorrow. Agreed about Streets of Kenny. Nowhere near his best effort with Shack. Would love to hear him sing “Loaded Man”.Michael Head excellent tonight as always. Gets a very big sound of his acoustic guitar. Streets of Kenny probably the highlight, it’s never been anywhere near my favourite tune. It was just fine so well
I’m very much looking forward to it, but not sure if I’ll make the Sunday.
City hall is probably the ideal size venue to see them, booked to see them in Brussels solely because I don't want to see them on an arena screen. Was a great night, though I was knackered after being at the match and drinking through the afternoon - and I am definitely one of the elderly! Was disappointed when I saw her at the Cluny a while back.Jane Weaver at Glasshouse tonight then LYR at Wylam Brewery on Sunday.
To be honest, I was a bit disappointed with this one at the Glasshouse as well. It was a bit clinical and sounded too similar to the records. The music was played well but her band were a dull watch. Jane was nice and friendly and sounded great. I assume it was a hired band for the tour and if so it showed. Was it similar at the cluny? Was disappointed when I saw her at the Cluny a while back.
Aye. Felt like they were going through the motions somewhat. Some acts just don't sound as good live I guess (which may be the subject of another thread). To be honest, I was a bit disappointed with this one at the Glasshouse as well.
