Forest v The Shop Chanters

When it works its alright, but like you're seeing this season when it doesn't pay off it looks shite.

Looked shite last season as well but for me it's a valid approach. Everybody expects a defeat in those games, any sort of point is a bonus.
Man City had won something like 15 or 16 games in a row before playing us, people predicting a 6-0 win etc. We had a few chances near the end and could've nicked a draw.
Even Chelsea on Sunday despite them having all the ball, it could've resulted in a fairly undeserved point if not for an own goal. Its shite to watch but can work well as only 2 of the top 6 won up here last year.

2 of the top 6 have won up here this year as well and it’s august mate.

To be fair i would rather be in a league where we are winning that the premier league. This business of wanting to host Man City, Man Utd, Liverpool etc is rubbish. I do not support them. I support Newcastle and watching us huff and puff to the odd few wins against WBA or Swansea last season was depressing.

It's like being stuck in the VIP section of some shite bar. You queued to get in, get to see a few beautiful women but the drinks are crap and way overpriced. Next door there's a cracking boozer full of decent people selling great beer for a fraction of the cost.

Much in that Mag article to agree with. Fielding a weakened side last night in preparation for Man City away was gross stupidity. Stupidity by the manager not Ashley by the way.
A far more sensible plan would be to field the first XI and put the reserves out at the weekend. They may well have been humped 8-0, we may still get humped 8-0. Obviously some will trot out the protecting goal difference however who was the last team to be relegated on goal difference?

Too often managers blame those upstairs. Yes they all want more to spend which is fair enough i suppose however what about the money they are given?

Has Rafa spent wisely and gained value for money?
Has Jose (another moaning on about investment) spent wisely and gained value for money?

We all know the game is totally different for a hand full of clubs, and that is becoming more apparent as each season comes and goes, however the rest of us still have to live within our means.

I got hammered on here at the time (top flight) for saying I'd have taken relegation from the premier league if it meant winning a cup. Football is about winning something, not telling the bairns one day how their dad once saw his team finish tenth.

This 100% for me. I’m glad you’re saying it as when we do I think it’s often interpreted as sour grapes.

I’d love for us to be promoted this season and next but I’d not be looking forward to returning to the Premiership at all.

Championship with NUFC, SAFC, Boro, Leeds, Sheff Utd, Sheff Wed, Derby, Villa............... give me that next year over the dull fair we had last year, and likely this year.

And the average looking women are up for owt.

Id absolutely love that.

When i finally get bagged from here i will join you at CLS sir.

Agreed. Wigan supporters wouldn’t swap the cup win for two more seasons finishing 4th bottom of the premier league and Martinez has done well out of it professionally, so I don’t understand managers of clubs other than top 6 not having more of a go, especially when it is in no way proven that by having a go you will increase chances of going down.

It was even more baffling that some fans of those clubs, for a while, bought into the idea of duffing the cups. The worm turned on that one thankfully.

And exactly. Six or seven wins and you get a cup. Its hardly make or break. Iirc under Poyet our cup run actually lifted us as confidence grew.

Agree 100% with that. In my time I've seen Newcastle finish 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 10th, 13th, 18th. Seen them lose in cup finals and semi finals.
The 3 times winning the second division in 93, 2010 and 2016 I'd rate higher than all but maybe 4 or 5 premier league seasons.
Winning a trophy is forever. Bet Wigan fans remember the FA Cup win more fondly than the seasons they survived relegation.

That would be spot on imo, good competition and very open. The premier league just got boring imo and same old shit just trying to stay up each year, i don’t miss it at all.

Dear me, this is becoming a joke that only those on the outside can laugh at.

The constant moaning from Benitez, the endless white flags and dire football are hilarious for everyone but the Mags ... and those who pay a Sky subscription of course.

Benitez is the Paul McKenna of football, he seems to have hypnotised an entire Nashun ..... when a so called football expert, like Shearer, declares a mid-table finish 'a miracle' you know something weird is going on.

The Mags, including him, believe Newcastle without Ashley would be Man City ... they never consider they could be another Blackburn, Leeds or Sunderland.

Benitez has them believing he's achieved the impossible with his signings. Last night was surely a slap across the face of even those in the deepest trance.

Is this a good approach against a pub team in the cup? 50m worth of strikers, wingers....1 shot on target...

60 years since a up win, didn't know you could pick and choose when to win trophies......

Exactly this mate. I say the same.
Like all those radgies on the League Cup thread, saying get rid of it. Why on earth would they wanna get rid of 1 of only 2 real opportunities of winning a trophy at Wembley in our lifetime?!

Brainwashed by Sky into thinking the PL is the best league in the world.

It may have 3 or 4 big clubs but the rest of the world doesn't look on in envy at Huddersfield, Brighton and Newcastle.

The PL doesn't conquer all in Europe because we're just not that good.

The National team win nothing because there aren't enough good English players.

They're the facts.
