Food combinations you used to have when you were young

  1. Used to get pissed off when me Mam bought ready salted crisps so I’d pour vinegar in the packet, make it salt and vinegar.

Had smash, beans and egg when I was younger. Where’s the meat mother!!!!

Me dad used to grow his own vegetables and when he lifted his new potatoes we had spuds with everything.

A cheddar cheese and sliced new potato sandwich (white bread) is still a favourite of mine.

Vinegar buns. Just doughy buns sprinkled with vinegar, salt and pepper.

No wonder me guts rotted away.

My Mam would have loved that. Dad used to cook those tiny new potatoes that he grew for supper sometimes and we would have them just with salt. He always wanted to put them in a waxed paper bag which I think brought back memories for him...only we had no waxed paper bags. I'm sure he served them in a newspaper spiral/bag affair once. :)

If my Mam was out or working late and my older sisters were in charge of the tea we often had these.
