Flying drones over Sunderland

Definitely worth having. I’ve had one replacement drone for a crashed one and they also replaced a controller albeit that was in warranty.
Wouldn’t be surprised if I have another replacement before it runs out.
Took the 2 year plan, 55 quid seems a bargain in the grand scheme of things

Took it for a very quick spin today at a local field, just building my confidence up on it, took it up about 30 metres in the air and just had this fear that it doesn’t seem right that it can come back down so easy 😅

Let it hurtle across the field about 200 metres and practised the basics..

Wind was a little high so didn’t go too far or too high… just practiced the basics… only ever had daft toy drones so this is unreal in comparison

They really are a doddle to fly. If it all feels like it is getting out of hand, just let go of all the sticks and it will stay where it is while you work out what you are doing.

The hardest thing with small grey minis is keeping them in sight and not losing track of them!
This part right here… I flew it out about 150 metres and could barely see it…. Just need ti remember the return to home button if in doubt

Thanks mate, I was more worried if it got out of hand that I’d end up trying to overcompensate on the sticks and then chaos ensured

So I’ll just release the sticks and it’ll hover! Am so so nervous because of the cost but I’ll stick with open plan areas..

Anyone reckon the DJI care pack is worth paying for?
Whatever you do don't pull both sticks back and point towards each other. It kills the motors and it will drop.

Release and hover yes.

Certainly worth having as a new flyer, it is painfree if anything happens.

Good luck and enjoy.

Went out for a walk yesterday with no real plan but took the drone with me. In hindsight I didn't quite get what I intended with the reflections on the beach but sure I'll get another chance.

You'll get some canny footage of the sea if you use a CPL filter on the lens. That reduces any glare and reflections. When the sea's clear you'll be able to see dolphins better

What software do you use to add music?

Not quite what I intended today but lovely sunrise when I was out for a walk so grabbed some footage.

When it doesn't go to plan. Think I'll have to abandon any plans of flying round Sunniside, Nile Street etc as the seagulls and pigeons are too hazardous.

I had what i thought was bird strike once, scary stuff drone fell for what seemed an eternity before it corrected itself. Got back home and found out one of the motors had grit in it. I suppose at least you had a warning.

Little tip, If you ever see birds just fly up in sports mode, birds can't fly up verticaly.

My own fault because I knew this and despite three warnings I thought they would bugger off. Lesson learnt.
I was totally baffled about how it corrected itself as I definitely thought it was gone. One of the gimbal shoulders had popped out but put it back and it seems to fly okay.
Think the pigeon survived as well, I guess the workmen on the site will find out this morning.
