Flying drones over Sunderland

It is, the mini series are a good all rounder.
mini 4k purchased and delivered today, getting setup now, done the CAA thing

going to take my time reading everything, and will do a little test in the garden, then take it out this sunday (weather permitting) for a practice somewhere nice and open and away from folk, just to get a handle on it, went for the FlyMore so got the extra batteries etc...

Cant wait to get using it

I have officially entered Middle Age!

They really are a doddle to fly. If it all feels like it is getting out of hand, just let go of all the sticks and it will stay where it is while you work out what you are doing.

The hardest thing with small grey minis is keeping them in sight and not losing track of them!

Good luck, you'll have loads of fun.
This is a really good site for checking conditions. Worth paying the £25 or whatever annual charge to check a week ahead.

You are supposed to fly using VLOS. If you do that they are easy to keep in sight but if you look down at your phone and then back up you can lose them.

A good tip is to fly in a straight line out and straight back. That way the drone is easier to see.

I have the aux light on by default now, even during the day. Not noticed a massive impact on battery life and just gives you an extra something to look for.

Not an option on the older minis - I actually attach a tiny strobe light to mine - technically as it weighs 4g it probably takes my drone up to 251g so illegal, it certainly makes it a lot more visible when its not bright and sunny though.

Anyone know if they are allowed at hamsterley Forrest?
Think it would great to have it follow us on the open bits on our bikes

Nice one, you'll have great fun.

Don't worry about flying they more or less fly themselves, just let go of the sticks and it will stop and hover if you're ever flapping. If its the model wit obstacle avoidance beware it is all but useless in the dark, and doesn't detect phone lines etc, as i found out to my horror.

Any questions just ask on here, theres a few of us have them.

Byelaws against that unless you have a permit

Drone use in the nation's forests

You must have a permit from us to fly a drone in the nation’s forests for any reason - recreational or commercial.

We believe most people visiting a forest expect a peaceful experience and would not appreciate unlimited drone use, and it could also disturb wildlife.

We have byelaws to control people flying drones to where we believe there will be a benefit to the forests. The UK Civil Aviation Authority is clear that byelaws can restrict drone flying that might not usually need landowner permission and this includes flying from public rights of way in the nation’s forests.

The Forestry Commission byelaws specifically control operating “any aircraft, glider, hot-air balloon, boat, raft or craft or any kind, or any model aircraft, boat or car.”

Permission to fly a drone might include scientific research, producing beautiful video that people will appreciate, or controlled recreational events.

Why did it stop half way up the hill?

The M30T has the built in beacon. Saved me a few times through the day even

thats how mine got taken to 999ft at tynemouth. I got distracted by my mate and looked up and the wind had taken it right up. got a canny photo from it while it was coming back down

Thanks mate, I was more worried if it got out of hand that I’d end up trying to overcompensate on the sticks and then chaos ensured

So I’ll just release the sticks and it’ll hover! Am so so nervous because of the cost but I’ll stick with open plan areas..

Anyone reckon the DJI care pack is worth paying for?

Definitely worth having. I’ve had one replacement drone for a crashed one and they also replaced a controller albeit that was in warranty.
Wouldn’t be surprised if I have another replacement before it runs out.

Don’t forget your return to home button. It can be a life saver.

Incidentally RTH returns to the home point that sets each time you take off NOT your actual home as one rather dim American thought.
