Flower sacked?

All good things come to an end, and no one can deny that Flower has been an overwhelming good force for the England team.

But it has seemed like time for a change for a bit now, absurdly even after we had won 3-0 in the summer. This does not reflect badly on flower, it's just the way most managers in sport end up.

The one really bad thing is that Ashley Giles looks nailed on to be his successor. Giles is a "give me a nice blazer and I'll be a good lad" man. He will not fight for the team in the way that Flower and Fletcher did before him. England are in for a period of normality, i.e. looking up to Australia, India and South Africa.

I was going to post something similar to this but you've done ot perfectly.

I'm not surprised tbh. Vaughan and Collingwood at some point have to be involved.

Hopefully Giles will follow him out the exit door as well.

Flower's time was clearly up, heads had to roll after this complete and utter shambles.
I will be gutted if Giles is appointed.[DOUBLEPOST=1391200808][/DOUBLEPOST]
Would quite like to see someone replace him who will encourage an attacking and aggressive brand of cricket. While the attritional stuff has been largely effective throughout Flower's time (and for that you cant complain too much) it hasnt been great to watch at times. Especially as the Vaughan era still isnt too much of a distant memory
I'd appoint Nasser if we could prize him out his cushy job at sky.

Good. There's no way that that bunch of cricketers are as bad as the results suggest, the collective collapse has been ridiculous. It can only be the management and coaching, he had to go.

Giles and Gooch too hopefully.

Think a bit unfair on Flower that mate, overall he has done a job don't think we can dispute that.

We were truly shocking in the Ashes, but I thought that was mainly down to our batsman shitting themselves against Johnson and showing no bottle whatsoever once behind in the series.

Fair enough Flower has to take his share of the blame, put more so the players in my opinion with Cook top of the list.

I thought Flower has done a magnificent job up until this winter.

Whats coming out now is that he was not sacked but that he has resigned from his position.

Please not Ashley Giles to replace him. What about Martin Moxon from Yorkshire. He did an excellent job at Durham but left before his work came to full fruition. He has done an excellent job in developing his Yorkshire team from 2nd Division also ran into genuine 1st Division title contenders.

I would of certainly of gone for Geoff Cook to lead England had it not been for his health problems. He is the Alex Ferguson of County Championship Cricket. Record 2nd to none over many many years at Durham.

You can only judge on what you see and there's no denying we were very good for a while, but the effort this winter was pathetic. Cook, Trott, Pietersen, Bell and Prior are all world class performers and they have all collapsed, all at the same time. For me, that can only be down to preparation and coaching.

We took 17 players to Australia and managed to play 18, even though one of the original touring party didn't get on the pitch. It was a complete shambles and he had to go.

I was talking to Lord Ottis in Barbados last year (friend of a friend, look at me etc etc) and he would be my leftfield choice as replacement.

Flower deserves lots of credit for rebuilding England and overall doing a sterling job. However as Pie says the recent tour was one of the most shambolic in living memory.

I was in Australia last time we were mauled 5-0, and it never felt anything like as humiliating as what has just happened....add to the fact the team pulled their fingers out and won a thrilling one day series to recover some respectability afterwards.

I hope it's not Giles tbh, also I would like to see KP replace Cook as Skipper, even though it won't happen

A Giles and Cook combo in charge is about as exciting as being dragged clothes shopping with the Mrs.

I do see your point the preparation must not have been good however the players you have mentioned have been established international players for years now.

Probably agree that Flower had to go,but don't think the players should be able to excuse their performances on the basis that coaching was not good.

It is a bit like the England football team, fans and the press have slaughtered managers for performances at World Cups etc, while the players have not taken their share of the blame.

Would not mind Gibson taking over as better option than boring Giles
