Finish the job

Return of the king. A last minute throw of the dice with us needing a goal to clinch European footy, on comes Abdoullah Ba and he scores the winner versus Chelsea.
I like the idea. Recall him from loan in dunkerque and send the Little Ships to bring him home to send us to the stratosphere

Peter Reid’s’ team got 58 and 57 points in the seasons they finished 7th, I think the next highest PL points total we have had was 47 and 45 points next Steve Bruce.

So next target has to be to better the Steve Bruce seasons ns, then push on to rqusl Peter Teids total.
Peter Teid

😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀👍

Now that the double’s done and we’re almost certainly safe, the re-focussed goal now has to be to finish above them. While it’s not necessary for us to do so in order to have had a brilliant season, it would be the absolute icing on the cake and would extinguish the last breaths of delusion left in our neighbours.

Also, if we finish above them there’s a good chance we’ll be knocking on the door of Europe, and by extension a good chance they won’t be.
Disagree. We’ve seen them off this season.

The aim now should be minimum a top half finish, regardless of where they come. Still be funny to finish above them though!

We will beat 58 points in future years this club is run like a machine and will only get better. This will break the hearts of the horse punchers.

Let's do this

Now

Regis has a bit of a challenge here. His team had dropped off somewhat since being safe from relegation, just like it dropped off massively once we realised automatic promotion wasn't possible last season.

Now I'm not complaining - the outcomes in both cases were brilliant. But I'd like to see us push on THIS season and get top 10, even top 8.

Was great to see us get so many bodies into their box when we attacked Sunday. If we mirror this for the last 7 games, we can have a good end to the season.

This. Imagine being above them in the league table all summer. I might have to buy some “Mind the Gap” stickers for trips to the office.

Good point.

the drop off has coincided with a number of key 1st regulars being unavailable.

The majority of those are coming back now so no excuses RLB, let’s go for it 💪🙏

You often see this - injury crisis and players step up and do well, but unsurprisingly it can't be maintained. That's pretty much how it went this time, and as you say, most are back now ready for the run in.
I just hope we don't coast now, and really really go for Europe.

The goal should be European qualification, if that means we finish above them then all the better.
My thoughts exactly.

If that's not the target there's something wrong.

We might not get there, but if there's nothing to play for, it's going to be a very slow finish to the season.

No effing and jeffing over the coming break, we need to employ trained chimps and get the hammers out, work the dark arts and help consign Spurs to relegation. Only 15 days so the witchcraft needs to begin NOW

I really want us to have strong finish to the season. We are in the perfect position to do so - three weeks break to tweak, rest, fine tune. All our strong players pretty much back. It would be a massive statement of intent and would surely help recruitment again. I really don’t want the season to fizzle out. Would love a win over Chelsea and Man U as well. Obviously finish above those sad bastards as well! FTM

Out of the 7, 3 are very winnable, and a couple you'd hope for a point. 14pts is a pretty good stretch target, no less than 10 though. Could just about be enough to nick 8th. All could ride on the Everton result.

Or knowing us, we'll end up 14th

Shame we cant play the mags again.
We’d win the league if we played them all the time.
I’m torn on Europe tbh. On the one hand it would be amazing. On the other you see what effect it has on the likes of Forest and Palace who have struggled this season. Will we have a squad capable of playing 2 games a week at this level next season? I’m not so sure.
Have Palace really struggled that much? I don’t think they’ve ever been in any real relegation danger have they?

Why? With the players coming back from injury, our squad for the remaining fixtures could potentially be the strongest it’s been all season.
I agree....i also think the win on sunday was the "kickstart" our season needed. Confidence should be high going into the Spurs game however it is vital we beat them imo in order to carry on the momentum following that great win over the Mags. Anything is possible fo th ladt few games

Who would you have get the goal that gifts us that milestone?

Mr Sunderland gets my vote
Last game of the season, that naughty former League One player Mr Luke O’Nien steps up and back heels a penalty into the roof of the net with that huge grin on his face. 😀
