Ferg on Keano

I loved him.
Should we have kept him in hindsight? Or had he taken us as far as he could?

It was definitely time for him to go.

That defeat to Bolton in his last game was horrible to witness, think just about everyone knew as soon as they went 3-1 up just before half-time that it would be the last time we'd be seeing Keane in the dugout.

he was a superb manager for us. Exactly what the place needed at the time. Lifted the mood, dragged us from our arses into the top flight and kept us there. Walked away from the job when he knew the dynamic had shifted rather than hang about. Never once belittled expectations and gave us a much needed home derby victory.

Yes his signings may have left us with debt , though how much he was involved in wages and length of contracts is unknown.

Ill always remember his tenure very fondly.

And he's great value as a pundit. Don't always agree with him but he is as straight as you like and doesnt beat about the bush.

Still don't think it was as bad as the poor runs we had under Bruce and MON.

Quality in the squad was just very poor, we had the Noz in defence ffs.

dare he would get more out of the squad we have now than the one he assembled. the likes of Larsson gardner oshea and Cattermole would respect him more than any other else. don't know why I think that like

Keane was excellent for us. If he had got an experienced number 2 in, he could have taken us further than anyone else has done since. Our progress was stunted by having an inexperienced Chairman and inexperienced Manager at the same time but I'd love to have them both back now.

Spent a lot of money to assemble that poor squad mind.

Despite the negatives, some of my best times as a Sunderland fan were under his reign. The promotion season under him was the first time I could afford to go to matches by myself, had some brilliant days out and the momentum we gradually built up after Christmas was fantastic.

Maybe so but he picked this club off its arse and got us as much positive profile as it's ever had in recent memory. That work has just about been dismantled.
Achieved everything that he needed to here. Got us off the bottom of the championship, promoted to the premier league and kept us there. He came and went at the right time. Yes he made some mistakes, they all do, but I have some fantastic memories of his time here. Especially the away games.

Burnley, Sheffield Wednesday and Barnsley were brilliant days out.

And Luton

Couldn't make it to that one, was absolutely gutted when I realised as it looked like going down to the final day to see if we were going up, then relieved when Palace beat Derby the week before, then gutted again when we won 5-0 and won the league.

Biggest sickener was seeing the videos of that day, looked brilliant.
