Fat Mike Ashley

I think there's a huge difference to be honest. I'd much rather try and at least be the best that you can be, or the best of the rest if you like, even if that was 'just' finishing 7th or 8th and ultimately no Europe. I'd far rather finish 7th like what West Ham did in 2016 with a +14 goal difference (so you're winning a lot of games comfortably) and have the mindset of e.g. Bournemouth fans being like 'hmmm, home to West Ham today, tough game, I'd probably take a point to be honest' rather than them saying 'West Ham at home, if we are going to be stay up then we need to be beating dross like this', or in Newcastle's case, teams like Stoke, West Brom etc. being very pleased if they return home from St James' with a point rather than seeing it as 2 points dropped to potential relegation fodder.
Well I couldn't give a shit, it's win or nothing for me

This is a little too close to home... this could so easily be said as...

The [mags] Mackems are too thick to recognise all the good work he's done. All they can think about is spend spend spend to reclaim their rightful place back in the [Champions] Premier League

I actually think that some of the sentiments here about there being a good (and unacknowledged) side to Ashley's ownership tenure is true - he did stabilise the financial side of the club. But with a neutering of ambition for higher places in the league table.

I don't see a willingness here to accept the longer term view that a relegation (or two) might be necessary to achieve stability. (And when I said two relegation's, I was referring to NUFC going down twice into the championship, not SAFC going straight to League 1.) I hope that SAFC had contingency planning, this time last year, for the strong possibility of the Championship as there needs to be a 3 year plan (not a 3 month plan).

I'm following Grumpy's expectation that a painful reconciliation of the financial picture is required and that there just isn't the luxury of 3M here or 5M there for players for the foreseeable future. But that when SAFC get through that period, then the future brightens.
Only if we don't go down

Well he had the sense to support the manager after relegation to give him a good shot at getting straight back up. Achieved that and now knows he is in a better place to sell them! Short seems content to let the club keep sliding and hope to find a buyer ffs
Entirely different situation - bankrolling a spending spree in the hope of gaining promotion would have been foolish in our position.

Despite the deluded mags saying otherwise he's actually improved a lot of things and has them in a much better financial situation.
Still don't worry mate, nee chance he's investing in football again after handling that lot.

Aye, I don't think he'll honestly fancy another foray into football after Newcastle.
Must be quite hurtful to have 50,000 folks harmonizing on the fact that you're a 'fat cockney bastard' ...at each and every game

Aye. What a shame for the poor fat cockney bastard. I hope to God he doesn't ever buy us.
