FA Cup Final This Weekend ๐Ÿ†

As a pairing it is really dull. ๐Ÿ˜…

Might not watch it. But then I might tune in for the regulation 2-0 City win.

It's a shame for me not to watch it when I think of how I was when I was a kid. Absolutely loved the old build up , then the game , and out in the street with my mates afterwards .

Wondering if its shit cos I'm an auld bastard but prefer to think it's because football on tv , especially a live game , was rare indeed.

Na, I highly doubt there will be millions of kids out in the streets playing football after tomorrows final.

Maybe smashing things up and riding electric scooters with hoods up.

Of course I would love Sunderland to win the Cup, even the inferior League Cup, despite the reduced status of both competitions. No matter what, the Cup will never regain its former glory, even if the winners were guaranteed an automatic entry into the Champions League.

It was degraded from the time Man Utd were allowed to drop out of it to prepare for the 2000 World Club - ironically Man Utd and their fans since seem to take it more seriously than anyone else.

I hope Chelsea win & therefore qualify for the Europa League, meaning they could rest up for our game, having been in a tough midweek game v Spurs.
You never know, if we can get something at Everton and then beat Chelsea, who knows what could happen.

Wouldn't we want Man City to win and try to finish above Chelsea ourselves?

City to win and Pep to step down.

Still can't believe how much of a mess he made of that Champions League final against them a few years ago mind. No way should that City side have lost to them.

All well and good if it was only about winning the game. Its not though, we can finish above Chelsea and get into Europe!

Not fussed. Not watching.
Shame. As a kid I'd get up at 9am and watch Cup Final Grandstand.
Aye used to be all day viewing. I'll watch it but I didn't even know it was this weekend until this thread!

This is the Merseyside final in 1986 as someone has uploaded it all in 30 mins segments so just been skipping through it.

When 'big' sides were putting out reserve teams everyone was saying it was a second rate competition - now when two big sides get to the final people seem to be saying the same thing.
Well yes, but there's no contradiction there. The big sides still put out weakened teams in the early rounds, but because their squads are deeper, their reserves are still better than most teams. And, other teams have followed suit in making changes for the FA Cup, even lower league teams (like we used to be!), so it is a second rate competition. It only becomes a bit serious in the 6th round/semi-finals when teams can smell money - I mean look at us losing at Port Vale this season in the 5th round.

If we'd been really serious about it, we would have wiped the floor with a team that got relegated to the 4th division, but we weren't up for it. Not sure if that's the players or RLB not being too bothered about it, but it was a disgrace!

Great stuff! Nostalgia. ๐Ÿ˜Š
Remember them using that Miami Vice themed music for the titles/summary introduction.
