F1 2026

I got Rindt because him and his missus were the posh and Becks of the day
I got Rindt because of rewatching the Bernie documentary recently which had a good segment on his life, death and posthumous championship. He was such a lad! And "a naughty boy" according to Ecclestone!

That documentry is surprisingly good. I thought i knew most things but didn't know how close bernie was to rindt... I thought he was just found by chapman.

I saw a documentary where Ken Tyrell was talking about pit stops of old.

Fangio pulled into the pits, got out of his car to stretch his legs while his crew refuelled him then waved to the crowd who were chanting “Fangio, Fangio”

After basking in the adoration of his fans he climbed back in the car and set off.

Bit different from the 3 second stops of today!

Lambiase reportedly joining McLaren in 2028 from Red Bull.

Feels like that’ll be another step out the door of F1 for Verstappen unless he can get a move to Mercedes or follow GP to McLaren.

Genuinely think in two years of this he'll be a busted flush, if he's still here. He won't go anywhere as a second driver, Mercedes will be all-in on two times champion Antonelli. Toto doesn't need Verstappen any more.

McLaren isn't a works team, both of their drivers are there long term unless there's a fallout, and the happy clappy Team Orange environment of "fairness" would be against everything Verstappen is.

By 2028, it'll be Vettel to Aston Martin all over again. Admired and rated highly, but no genuine offers and a misfit everywhere credible. A creeping realisation everywhere that "oh, maybe it was just the car". His championship years will feel a long time ago, his reputation dented by prolonged mediocrity, and a new guy will have come along as the best of the new generation.

It's early days yet, but Hadjar has outqualified him twice out of three, he has only 12 points from 3 races and a sprint, and his constant moaning is wearing thin.

He knows all of this of course, which is why he would indeed be clever to quit and go and bully the likes of Stoffel Vandoorne, Nyck de Vries and Will Stevens in WEC.

If Russell doesn’t win a championship I can 100% see Toto going back in for Verstappen, even for 2027 never mind the year after. I think if he’d had his way Kimi/Max would’ve been Mercedes lineup for this season.

I could have seen him pairing Verstappen with Russell this year (or next if Antonelli wasn't working out). But I can't see any way he'd put Verstappen in with Kimi. He'd disrupt everything, and take too many points off Kimi. Kimi is his long term No 1, his next Hamilton special little guy, and Verstappen would be disruptive and a poor fit.

Like I say, worth evaluating late last year and having lined up as a backup, but he has his favourite. Verstappen is running out of options due to circumstance.
