F1 2026

Fair points but the GPDA through Carlos Sainz are raising these very issues with the FIA. The closing speed differentials were raised as an issue by Team Principals last year. Stella was very vocal about this.
It's fair to question it, and the likelihood of a Grosjean style accident happening in unusual places around circuits where clipping or derating is going on, is where the danger is. In this case he hit Tecpro on the outside of a fast corner, a very conventional place to crash.

The rear wing lights are there as a warning but are stupidly complex and confusing, they have one flash for limited deployment, two flashes for zero deployment, and constant flashing while superclipping (which Colapinto wasn't doing).

I don't see a way to get around it or avoid speed differentials unless

- they vastly limit how much harvesting, regen and boost is allowed in which case they're all as fast as Honda Accords.

Or

- they regulate precisely where they can harvest and deploy, in which case all their "wheel to wheel racing" (lots of which is just motorway overtaking) is gone because they'll all be slow in sync and deploying in sync.

It's a fundamental part of this stupid ruleset. They can't instruct a different set of modified engine regs after three races as it's vastly unfair on the PU manufacturers, unworkable with development budgets amd programmes and it would be farcical.

They can shout all they want but they'll never avoid the issue until this formula gets binned in 2031. The ship has sailed.

How many can you name?
Everyone back to Alan Jones, would have been back to Hunt but couldn’t remember Jody Scheckter.
Bit miffed at missing Jack Brabham as I kept thinking of him.
The others missing were Farina, Fittipaldi, Hulme and Rindt,

I got them all, although I struggled with spelling some surnames such as Emo, Jacque, Kimi & most annoyingly the 79 South African champion.
