that's fair, though it didn't seem to create as big a differentialYou could say the same with the DRS button. I really didn't like how you could press that 3 times every lap if you were coming through from the back of the pack. It was a huge bonus for failure.
I saw the onboard from Colapinto I think it was, he reacted left and scared Bearman off the track - at those speeds he probably (and rightly?) shat himself. Is it me or was the Bearman crash quite avoidable? Yes the closing speed was high but in a sport where their reactions are unbelievably honed, he didn't seem to react very quickly? Was he distracted with something on the steering wheel?
I don't think it was a block at all, I think he had no idea there was anyone coming. It's not like in practice where you stay offline and yield to cars on laps when you're going slowly for whatever reason; they were racing and Colapinto was at racing speed (in this stupid new ruleset -40 mph is still racing speed)I saw the onboard from Colapinto I think it was, he reacted left and scared Bearman off the track - at those speeds he probably (and rightly?) shat himself.
Cola's move was dangerous from what I saw, but he probably left just about a car's width, and as the overtaking car wasn't "suffiently alongside" at the time, by the rules it was probably an on move - it wasn't even in the braking zone yet either I think.
But still, a horrible move to try to block a car doing 40mph more than you that you had no right to try to stop.
He certainly went off the racing line and veered left quite a bit at a strange time when you wouldn't expect it. I read this afterwards on Reddit:I don't think it was a block at all, I think he had no idea there was anyone coming. I think he's pressing buttons and not looking in his mirrors and drifting around the track, I don't think he has swerved left to block, that's all. I also think Bearman was pressing buttons and not totally focused on the track ahead. He certainly went off the racing line and veered left quite a bit at a strange time when you wouldn't expect it. I read this afterwards on Reddit:
"Actually Sky Italy analized the onboard video and more than defending, looked like colapinto went wide because it was fiddling with the wheel to adjust something, potentially fixing some issue as it was also shown no lights were on colapinto car and those shoud blink of you are clipping to charge to alert driver following."
.
Look how far left he goes - way past half way, is there even a car's width left for Bearman? Bearing in mind the racing line is hard on the right side for the left hander

He made 2 separate left turns there.
And lets compare his positioning on his other laps just to show it was an unexpected move - every other lap he's hard to the right side for the racing line, whereas this time he wanders 3/4 of the way across the track. To block someone doing 40mph faster than him. Its dangerous, but not covered by the rules in F1 these days (oddly, it is apparently a banned move in Indy car)

The thing is, cut it either way - deliberate block OR accidental veer to the left - they are both a dangerous move to pull on someone who's flying past at a huge speed difference who gets pushed onto the grass.I think he's pressing buttons and not looking in his mirrors and drifting around the track, I don't think he has swerved left to block, that's all. From what I’ve seen and read Max is somewhat disillusioned with Red Bull, the new regs and F1 in general.Apologies if already discussed earlier in the thread, but it's being reported by The Race that Max has an exit clause where he can leave Red Bull without penalty if he's not in the top two come the summer break, and he doesn't have to inform Red Bull of his decision until October![]()

He knows he can’t mount a realistic title challenge this year so he is looking for a more basic, pure motorsport.
I genuinely hope he finds it. I’m not a Max fan but I get that he does not warm to this new video game era of harvesting and deployment.
My views are clearly anachronistic and hardly relevant.
But by god they would make our sport more entertaining.
Starting with ……… you guessed it, a big 5.0 litre V 10.
And get rid of all this utterly pointless Eco stuff.
Just shove some petrol in there and let’s go racing!
Unleash hell!
Nope of course not I get that. We now have a 5 week break and something needs to be done to address one of the more serious implications of the new regs. You can keep on saying it but no one is listening. We aren’t going back to the 2000s cars that couldn’t overtake.
I’m expecting them to adjust the amount of regen. The whole point of the hybrid motor is to recoup energy that would otherwise have been wasted, what they are doing is running the engine purely to charge the battery and that is what is causing them to slow down on the straights. They are doing that because over a lap it is faster having the extra acceleration out of the corner that they wouldn’t otherwise have.Nope of course not I get that. Speed differentials. Bearman had a 50G crash party because of a 31kph speed differential between his car and Colapinto.
We don’t want to see things like that happening again.
Despite earlier reports and faulty telemetry, that's all it was. On a plenty wide enough part of the racetrack for two cars to be around each other. Sorry but I think the principal cause was both drivers fiddling with their steering wheels (clear video evidence of both) and not paying attention. An F1 Driver should be able to cope wuth a closing speed of 20 mph, sorry.Nope of course not I get that. I've just checked my emails and I didn't realise but I got one 4 days ago from Silverstone (they absolutely spam your inbox) advising that they were on sale but the general admission ones have sold out straight away.Anyone off here going down Silverstone who was interested in the darts Sunday night, just checked the tickets for sale and there’s only £300 ones left now. Have I missed the release for them IIRC there was ones for 50 quid?
@jarrowdiamond
Fair points but the GPDA through Carlos Sainz are raising these very issues with the FIA. The closing speed differentials were raised as an issue by Team Principals last year. Stella was very vocal about this.Despite earlier reports and faulty telemetry, that's all it was. On a plenty wide enough part of the racetrack for two cars to be around each other. 50G is a headline grabbing number but high G impacts into modern barriers don't kill drivers. They barely even hurt them. Much as he milked it, Verstappen was fine at Silverstone 2021 for example. Injuries happen when drivers drive into other things
I agree with you that it's partly a problem caused by complexity of the cars (the mental load and in-lap adjustments) but not the speed differential itself. And vastly exacerbated by two dopey drivers.
you're not wrong there!they absolutely spam your inbox
