Isn’t it by and large the same squad that was 4th at the end of September last season?

Also a similar squad that from our last 30 games we won 8, drew 6, lost 16. Worst team in the league except from Rotherham who finished bottom. Level on points with Huddersfield that were relegated.

Not having senior forwards and proper leadership has really hurt this young squad. Confidence and belief was very low. At September last season we had momentum, now things are very different. Incredibly the striking problems still hasn't been addressed as we go into the opener.

And similarly you can’t say that the rot hasn’t been addressed through an actual head coach and a style of play which was the main reason we sunk. We were playing well under the last actual manager we had
Yes mate and continuing to develop and improve.

Add Browne who was Preston's captain and player of the season, plus Poveda who Sheff Wed fans loved.

More players will sign.
Don’t forget Cirkin basically being like a new signing (subject to staying fit)

Tony Mowbray is a capable , experienced and well respected manager at championship level. I think even he was finding it really challenging trying to get results without a recognised striker for a sustained period. It began to take its toll and performances and results began to reflect that.

Cirkin is a good player at this level and it's great to see him fit again.

I feel sorry for RLB.
It's inevitable that he'll be judged on results. But it's so hard getting results without strikers

Problem is by the time we've got a couple of strikers we'll be 5 games into the season and likely winless. Very tough to win games at any without proper forward options. By September the pressure will be on to get that first win. Not looking forward to Saturday at all. Proper dread the Sheffield Wednesday game as well.

He's going to have to be really good to do that
This is the thing mate. We know all about how hard it is to get out of a rut after last season. If we sign Mindy, for example, it’ll likely take him a good while to be anywhere near fit to play.

I don't share all of the miserable squad's view... I think we'll beat Cardiff and look good doing so. Everything is that bit better than it was at this time, last year - younger lads a bit more mature and experienced, a head coach who doesn't appear incompetent, unlike the last two, shiny new kits that are the best we've had in years. Whilst it might not be HMS Piss the league, it'll not be HMS Get pissed on by the rest of the league.
