Durham CCC is delighted to announce that Varun Aaron will join the club as an overseas player for the final few weeks of the season. The Indian International is set to replace John Hastings, who has been called up to represent Chennai Super Kings in the Champions League Twenty20 competition.

Not the biggest of names but then Hastings wasn't that big a name when he came. Now we've put him in next year's Ashes squad.

I think he will do well personally.

Can bowl 90mph and was swinging it in the tests. At least we actually replace Hastings!

aye, doesn't bode well for any of our youngsters coming back though, main, wood, arshad, harrison, onions [not exactly a youngster i know] guess all of them are done till next year.

My sentiments exactly .

Wouldn't read too much into that FC average though. I imagine conditions in England in September will be much more favourable than Ahmedabad and Jaipur in the middle of an Indian summer!

Good work by DCCC for getting someone in though, seemingly the need to stay in Division One is huge.

Wood was the only one I think pushing to come back this season.

None of them would have replaced hastings as opening the bowling except onions and he's out til 2015 iirc. Aaron has the pace and swing to open.

Prestige wise perhaps but financially I cant see it making much of a difference. It isnt like the PL where you lose vast fortunes if you are relegated.

If we could keep our team fit we'd have been up there chasing for the title. So thats worth more money than getting promoted ;)

Interestingly if you looked at the table before the Notts game it looked very bleak but one win for us and a defeat or two for others make for far more healthy reading. Beat Middlesex next week and we could be almost out of trouble with games running out for the others. Mind you we havent done very well at Lords recently. Beaten in little more than 3 days last year.

true true, without hastings we need to someone to make good use of the new ball, hastings has been very impressive for early wickets, usually in clumps too. especially with stokes probably missing the rest of the season too i assume? or are the 8 million odis against sri lanka not for a while now?

Stokes is free for the rest of the season. He can play tomorrow.

The ODI's aren't till November
