Out and out winger (so more suited to the specific role than Palmer) with pace who has had a decent season at the title winners. Meanwhile Bowen is about to get relegated and a not insignificant number of Hammers fans would say he's not had the best season. Also played nearly twice as many minutes as Madueke so may be at greater risk of fatigue. It wouldn't have been a massive surprise to see the choice go the other way, but it's hardly a travesty in my view.

Madueke’s numbers are terrible mate and that is in the best side in the country. Palmer has done it on the world stage and still has numbers far-exceeding Madueke, in probably his and certainly Chelsea’s worst season for years.

Aye, fair enough for Cherry's perspective. Mind, I'd bet you'd find Hammers fans saying the same about Bowen (albeit he's been a talisman in the past). But he's an impact sub with pace and a true winger. Palmer really isn't, and just won't provide any width if he's played there. You could argue that the versatility and left footed balance could have seen him nudge ahead of one of the three 10s who are going, I guess. However, on the seasons they've had - and on what they've produced for England to date - there's no way that Palmer gets in before JB, Eze or Rodgers. To date, he's really struggled to impact at international level. Madueke over Bowen and Palmer is arguable, for sure, but it just isn't worth the froth for me. None of the supposedly contentious ones are. None of these are on the level of Hoddle leaving out Gascoigne in 98 - and even that one had some logic behind it.

Aye, but he's just not a winger. If we're not picking Madueke then it needs to be someone who provides that width. Truth is, it's slim pickings out there for England for the next couple of years.

Yeah I dunno if I've just been conditioned by Reg over the past few seasons, but I'm not all that arsed by who is sat at the end of the bench. Doubt we'll see them in any meaningful minutes anyway!:lol:
 
I dont like Palmer not sure why he has been left out he is a miserable ferker but the idea he or a lot of other alternatives does not get a place because they took Henderson is very poor imo

When you look back at 98 it was only contentious because it was Gazza. He was overweight and hadn't played well for a canny period
