England vs India (fourth test) The Oval

Anyone else get pi$$ed off listening to the Sky commentators rightfully praising the Indian team, but they never seem to tell it how it is regarding the shambolic display by the England batsmen, full of excuses instead of stating the obvious “ they’re hopeless”.

In the last 10 years no UK test venue has a higher away team win % than the Oval... 40%

Caps doffed to CricViz for the stat.

Sticking a team in, bowling them out for 190 and then losing by 150 on a flatty is appalling. The batting simply isn’t good enough.

Can complain about venues or pitches as much as we like but scoring 500 runs across two innings on that pitch is very poor. It’s fairly simple; if Root doesn’t score runs, we’re a very moderate side.
Fielding was very poor.

And moderate is being generous.

No disputing this, but add in some pretty dismal fielding and over bowling certain quicks without adequate relief / someone holding up an end in the 2nd innings too

We were out of sorts for large passages of this one, rethink needed

the manner in which we allowed them to easily accumulate runs wasn’t good either. We were flat and lax. The Moeen missed run out summed it up

ECB need to fuck off the Oval and Lords and forget about the money they make.

Playing at these grounds worsens our chances of winning series.

We’ve lost four of our last ten at the Oval.

For comparison, we’ve lost five of our last ten at Headingly. We’ve only won one of the last five at Trent Bridge.

If it’s flat, we don’t score heavily enough. If it seams, the technical weaknesses are exposed. It’s nowt to do with the grounds and all to do with batting.

The way we batted towards the end of the first innings was like we were confident we had enough to win. Wasteful shots sold us short. Burns dropping Rohit twice didn't help along with average bowling overall and hopeless fielding
