England vs India (fourth test) The Oval

I know it’s ridiculous. More often than not he sends that sort of ball into the stands. If he played that to a different ball then it’s stupid cricket, but a ball in his hitting arc? No issues apart from the dreadful execution.
Exactly this. It’s fine margins isn’t it, how many cover drives are criticised if nicked off yet when executed well it’s good positive cricket.

Whey exactly. If he hits it for six everyone is saying it’s great batting, hitting Jadeja out of the attack etc. He gets it wrong and you’ve got everyone saying what a terrible player he is. That ball deserved to go for six, he got it wrong, it happens.

Have no problem, was a phase of the game where higher risk, aggressive batting was justified. This is now a new ball pitch and it is also a pitch where bouncier bowlers - like Yadav and Bumrah - are the more dangerous bowlers. The grass is off and it is now a very Australian pitch (albeit with a dukes ball). Moeen Ali isn't going to be around very long v Bumrah with the new ball, absolute they right call to attack.

Just catching up with the thread from yesterday. Was it you that predicted you'd be happy with 80-2 first two sessions?
New ball due soon, let's get through to that for this pair
Damn it pope, deserved a 100
